run in safe mode.. and scan for virus/trojan etc..

you have a virus.. try stinger.exe or boot from a BART cd

make your laptop a slave on a desktop, copy your data over, reformat and reinstall. if you dont have a desktop, reinstall windows on a new partition (don't overwrite the old one) when you install, you should still be able to see all your old data, copy over what you need

pull your hard disk and hook it up to a desk top with something like this:

Then copy all your data to a desktop you can also reformat, check disc or whatever else you need to do.

Just drop it back into the laptop when you are done.

bah you don't have to reinstall in most cases. press f8 as the computer is posting and then choose to not reboot on errors. Once you do that youw ill get the blue screen but more then likely what the error message is. Let me know what that error message is after that and I'll let you know a few things to try.

if you are actually getting into windows and then it blue screens, try booting into safe mode and then start>run>type msconfig>then goto startup tab and turn everything off and see if you can get into normal mode.

some people just love to reinstall.
hook the hard drive up to a desktop?

bsod is for a reason, it dumps the reason to screen so you can fix it. if its auto rebooting you can go read the dump and fix it.

theres a dozen or more boot disks like bart pe http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ that can boot you into a windows environment so you can scandisk, virus scan, fix errors.

you would want to start with sosa's suggestion above and maybe run the system file checker with "sfc /scannow"

if you have a cd/dvd drive you can boot off of it into windows or linux and copy files to a networked drive.

you can do that a few times and get no where then do what I do, lol

just the other day my laptop decided to corrput the ntoskrnl file. and you cant just copy it over even if you can start in dos and your cd drive works.. tried it

plus, if you are getting blue screens, there is def something wrong with your o/s 3 years ago, no one would suggest a reinstall
