Virtual hosting question

When it comes to virtual hosting plans, what is more important to you, storage space or bandwidth amount?

What kind of combinations would you like to see made available?

kaori 01-04-2007 11:24 PM

when I was submitting a lot of galleries, bandwidth was most important..
I opted for a 500gb bandwidth plan, with 2500gb space..
I ran out of bandwidth pretty quickly :)

I still don't need more than 10gb of space

CaptainHowdy 01-04-2007 11:27 PM

Bandwidth + the best overage price you can offer...

Cash 01-05-2007 12:16 AM

Bandwidth amount by far, compared to storage space ...

2500 gb space on a virtual server? that server must have been huge

The offer is like that because they know no one uses that much disk storage, it's just marketing :)

Really? Someone would read that and not smell the bullshit?

Amazing.

serch 01-05-2007 04:06 AM

bandwith for sure!

SomeCreep 01-05-2007 04:06 AM

bandwidth

Himuro 01-05-2007 05:34 AM

Hosting imo is all the same, it really comes down to the price, apart from that, I'd go for the more reliable as in uptime at least 99,5%

fris 01-05-2007 06:01 AM

bandwidth for sure

I think no one here , aside from you, are able to cope with numbers ... :1orglaugh

to obtain that 2500 gb of storage, that box would need near 16 hard drives of 160 gigs in raid ...., just for him. :warning

It's BS, of course, but it can be promoted in that form, since as you said no one copes with numbers ... Anyway, supposing someone uses that disk storage, that means he has large graphics (pics/movies) there, which even with low traffic means a lot of bandwidth, so no way can that space offer go hand in hand with the bandwidth small offer, but as a BS marketing promo, I bet you can put 10,000 GB, potential buyers with less experience would still be impressed and buy :1orglaugh

If I saw a spec page that suggested I got 2500 gb on a virtual server, I would have guessed there was a typo.

I don't think I can agree with that . . . I think it comes down to customer service. That is what sets one company apart from another. :2 cents:

I have to agree customer service is the #1 key to success in the web hosting business, but I think it still comes down to the price, there is a limit to customer service, after you have email support, an irc channel, an online 24/7 chat etc like most of the respectable hosting providers, what else can you offer that will make you stand out? a lower price.

bizarredollars 01-06-2007 07:35 AM

I would only use virtual hosting for low bandwidth projects... tops, cjs, blog etc... for high bandwidth I want my own servers.

Klen 01-06-2007 07:36 AM

Bandwith is much important thing, much more important then space.AFter all disk space can be easily upgraded meanwhile bandwith not.

Fuck.. Our members area servers (6 boxes) only host 2400gb of content... We would burn 500gb of bandwidth in an hour or two tho. If you need that much space, get managed servers that belong to you.

Jace 01-06-2007 07:46 AM

no question about it, bandwidth

I think you have that bass-ackwards.

thagreek 01-06-2007 12:32 PM

Yeah, bandwidth is all that really matters!

Mike Semen 01-06-2007 12:36 PM

Bandwidth, uptime and RELIABILITY. 24/7 support and a phone number.

Did I mention reliability?

u-Bob 01-06-2007 06:41 PM

bandwith, no doubt about it.

Paparazzi 01-06-2007 06:50 PM

Bandwidth

dissipate 01-06-2007 06:50 PM

I'm guessing bandwidth would be the overwhelming favorite here.

Thanks, I was getting ready to create an Excel sheet to see if I could see a pattern.

starpimps 01-06-2007 06:58 PM

for space i only need 1/10th of the amount of bandwidth

KingNigel 01-07-2007 08:04 AM

I agree .. BW is the most critical factor.
