Smart till the sponsors find them and can their account and keep whatever they made, leaving them having paid out to the surfers lol.

MattO 01-09-2007 10:09 PM

It's called giving a Rebate, and is common practice in mainstream, not sure why it wouldn't be allowed in Adult.

FreeHugeMovies 01-09-2007 11:45 PM

YES I love making more money!

Surfer signs up for $1 trial. "Webmaster" gets paid $30+ for the $1 trial. Surfer cancels before trial rebills. Affiliate program gets fucked.

Makes sense now?

He's not telling them to cancel, he's not instructing them how to cancel, he's just giving them an incentive to join.

You think people don't join trials and cancel all the time anyway?

kane 01-10-2007 12:23 AM

I would be curious to see what his conversion rate form trial to full join is.

datatank 01-10-2007 12:30 AM

It is called Incentivized Traffic, It is huge in mainstream IE free ipods etc..

Every once in a while some one comes along and tries to do it to the adult market. Personally I have never accepted it in mainstream..

StickyGreen 01-10-2007 12:54 AM

I guess it would be okay if the people signing up were actually looking for a program to signup to, but in this case they are all planning to just cancel during the trial without even giving the site a chance...

Are you kidding?

stev0 01-10-2007 01:04 AM

It totally undermines the PPS system, fraud plain and simple. People are signing up to rip off a piece of the sponsors cash, not because they're interested in the site. When a sponsor pays PPS they're investing in a targetted customer, how well do you think his accounts rebill?

wtfent 01-10-2007 01:08 AM

This thread made me laugh. Some people just dont get it. This guy is a total newb and now he is probably like what the hell did I get myself into this time.

I see it more like...

A car salesman selling cars to his friends to collect commision, then having his friends return the cars for a refund, then splitting the commision.

SPACE GLIDER 01-10-2007 01:09 AM

is there a downside to his plan?

Matt 26z 01-10-2007 01:12 AM

Buyer kickbacks from affiliates are not uncommon in mainstream.

I'd love to see the adult industry allow them. It would eliminate shaving if you had surfers coming to you for their free gift after they signed up.

Correct. He's only 18. I don't think he meant any harm. He most likely didn't know that rebates were not allowed in adult.

It's nothing at all like a rebate. A rebate is me buying a product for $100 and getting something like $20 or $30 back. Show me a mainstream rebate where I can spend $1 and get myself a check for $20.

The guy is stealing from the sponsor. If anyone can't see that, they're fucking stupid.

thaifan99 01-10-2007 01:22 AM

haha, true... 10 years ago I started out by joining chat rooms and asking people to click on my pay per click banner *shudder*. I'm just amazed at all of the replies from people that see nothing wrong with it.

No I am not kidding I do it ALL the time in mainstream. If I have a product sale for a produt that is say $50.00, and that company is paying me 75% of the sale ($37.50), I can, and do, offer rebates up to $20 that I personally pay that person 90 days after the sale via PayPal.

I have been doing it for years, and I make a lot of money doing it. It's very common practice.

80% of the people don't even collect their rebates.

Thatīs fine but canīt be compared to pps. Using it for revshare would be OK. Surfer buys a membership for $30.00, you get $15.00 and pay the surfer $5.00 back. No problem at all.

But for pps itīs simply stealing from the sponsor.

fr0gman 01-10-2007 03:27 AM

Wow.. now THAT is an idea.

flashfire 01-10-2007 04:23 AM

well its pretty shady...I wonder how his conversions to full memberships is though? would be very interesting but this breaks the terms of every site I've seen for obvious reasons. Does he tell them to cancel trials?

There's nothing at all wrong with that. You're giving a rebate. What this guy is doing is stealing from the sponsor program. You're cutting your own profit margin to give an incentive to the surfer to make a purchase. This guy is abusing the PPS system and the sponsor program is getting fucked.

Project-Shadow 01-10-2007 09:36 AM

If the guy was using it for Revshare purposes im sure the sponsors would have no issue at all. However the way he has it set up currently is leaning towards fraud.

Not leaning; it *IS* fraud.

mikeyddddd 01-10-2007 10:29 AM

I thought about doing that years ago, but most programs did not allow offering buyer incentives in the TOS.

Here's the banner ad that I've seen on mainstream sites

http://www.adultnuke.com/asswipe.gif

scottybuzz 01-10-2007 11:18 AM

couldnt anybody say they signed up though. how on earth does he track his surfers? ahhh that gives me an idea ;)

Adult-biz 01-10-2007 12:29 PM

This is theft and fraud when the surfer is cancelling (and being told to cancel by the affiliate who is being paid for the join). No defence for this sort of shitty practise.

The guy has the audacity to question Silvercash for this not being in the Terms! Fucking laughable.

This practise of *rewarding* surfers to join sites and then paying after they cancel has been around for a while. This practise was occuring some years ago with Clickcash/iFriends sites.

Instant account termination from the sponsor should take place.

Also the bulk of mainstream rebates are manufacturers rebates, so the money is coming from the manufacturer, not the store. :2 cents:

madawgz 01-10-2007 01:19 PM

that idea could work, if he didnt pay anyone....and he went on revshare lol

MattO 01-10-2007 01:22 PM

The guy is posting on SomethingAwful's forums and telling people to cancel after they've signed up.

Right now this site has two offers up:

iFriends - Sign up and verify your account with a CC and get $20

Webcams.com - Sign up for the $4.99 trial and get $28

Apparently they payout in 1-3 weeks via PayPal
I would be careful what email you use because I bet those webcam sites spam alot, but it looks like these are some pretty good offers. I'm gonna go give them a try.

BE SURE TO CANCEL THE WEBCAMS.COM OFFER!! Otherwise they charge the $40 monthly fee!!!

DaddyHalbucks 01-10-2007 01:23 PM

If the sponsors were really smart they would pay the guy a nominal amount and follow the cancelled check to see where the money went.

Then, sue the bastard!
