Beckham Signs With LA Galaxy

isn't he pretty washed up? they could dig up the bones of George Best, Pele and Mardonna and it still wouldn't make the MLS mean anything in North America.

Hopefully it will help spark more interest for the game in U.S.

Hasn't played much this year cause of the coach, but lastyear he was still
a good player, runs like a fucker and puts in good balls.

Huge difference between the US and Spanish league, Madrid's team is getting old aswell, so no one was running onto his balls, and that's the thing he does best.

Sarah_Jayne 01-11-2007 07:39 AM

I haven't heard that confirmed..I have heard they made an offer..if he moves it will be to expand his brand. He can't walk down the street in Japan..getting American fans would complete his world domination.

Now that I live in South America, I appreciate futbol. It is a great sport and is appreciated around the globe far more than our American sports. Not sure if this is true, but I heard once that in the past, a long time ago, the owners of the large stadiums in the USA owned by the football and baseball leagues would not let futbol be played in there stadiums as to not take away from their business. I hope this starts the movement.

Beckham in USA?I dont think they can afford that

Adult-biz 01-11-2007 08:20 AM

Transfer isn`t confirmed. Talks are taking place apparently with several other clubs also.

Yes, looks confirmed. Massive contract.

As a player he has been well below his best for a long time but I`m sure this club are looking at the bigger picture anyway what with his brand name. :)

he-fox 01-11-2007 10:03 AM

Yup, confirmed. They are trying to make football a showbiz, like all other US sports. Failure will be huge.

polish_aristocrat 01-11-2007 10:06 AM

$50 Million per season?

heh

Sarah_Jayne 01-11-2007 10:08 AM

somebody on the BBC was saying his ability to speak some Spanish (not sure how much as his English skills aren't that great) was part of the draw for the club

RF_Erick 01-11-2007 10:12 AM

David Beckham will be taking his act to Hollywood, joining the MLS club for a five-year deal reportedly worth $250 million.
Thats insane money.

actually, itīs 1.8 million euro. The rest are his image rights, that belong 100% to him now.

RawAlex 01-11-2007 10:15 AM

Beckham is moving to the US to satisfy his wife, the former "Posh Spice" girl who wants to have a career in acting. She has made many friends in the acting community, and has been actively shopping for a house in LA for about 6 months now.

Beckham had only a few choices, as she apparently had made it clear she would be in Hollywood with or without him. As he is no longer on the English international squad, and as his contract with Real Madrid was up, it was a pefect time to make it happen.

I would suspect you will see both on them in movies within the next few months.

SxDx 01-11-2007 10:22 AM

who cares about soccer here?

He better do fucking cartwheels and juggle when he scores to get the attention of US sports fans.

4Man 01-11-2007 10:28 AM

I don't like that guy at all!!!!

Violetta 01-11-2007 10:29 AM

He wants to be like Tom Cruise... but his was is in charge! She is tha bitch! She wants to move to the us, then he have to follow her!

jmk 01-11-2007 10:42 AM

Yup he's coming.
5 year contract ... supposedly $250m
Nice retirement if you ask me. And it means he will focus on his movie career ;)

I am not exactly a fan of hers but why is it wrong for a man to take his wife's happiness into consideration when choosing a job? It isn't like she doesn't bring in her own money. She still makes a massive amount from the Spice Girls not to mention all her other projects. I would say she has a right to a say in where they live too.

Cash 01-12-2007 01:31 AM

He's outdated anyway, barely a reserve at Real Madrid, and this due to his marketing money he brings to a club, too bad such a player makes so much money from fools around the world worshiping him and buying products with his Barbie girl face on them ...

starpimps 01-12-2007 01:59 AM

ya im sure wifey had a lot to do with the planned move

Sexsitesurfer 01-12-2007 02:06 AM

It is a business deal, brokered by a business agent not a sports agent. The deal makes sense for Becks money-wise and his career (out of England and Madrid team) would have gone down if he had moved to a smaller British club or been a bit-part player in Italy.

This way he leaves on his terms, earns loads of money and will give MLS unbelievable coverage in the States. Every magazine will carry pics of him and his family at restaurants, schools, parties, shopping. It will raise awareness and credibility of soccer in the States.

Seems like good sense to me and he doesn't have to stretch his (or her) brain with any new languages....

samsam 01-12-2007 03:23 AM

damn hes got so many tattoos, how the fuck will he have a movie career?

alexg 01-12-2007 05:05 AM

$50 millions per year... damn....

he's my favorite player though... I'd hate to see him go play so far in a league nobody cares about...
sorry americans ;)

Vitasoy 01-12-2007 09:07 AM

Past his prime but they're selling tickets cause of his name/star status/looks

Adult Search Results 01-12-2007 09:21 AM

insane amount of money.. LA Galaxy could build an empire like Chelsea or Barcelona with that type of money here in the USA

Adult Search Results 01-12-2007 09:22 AM

but then again.. Gretzky did wonders for hockey in LA and US in general

Mutt 01-12-2007 09:30 AM

hockey is different than soccer - to casual American sports fans they are going to be looking at Beckham and expecting alot of excitement and they're going to wind up going 'huh?'. soccer isn't a sport like basketball where one player can really dominate the game and stand out the way Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant do. Even people who had never watched a hockey game could see that Gretzky was special cuz he had the puck so much more than the other players and was involved in the majority of scoring plays and when Gretzky was playing the Kings were scoring alot of goals.

soccer will never catch on as a pro sport in the U.S. - the best it can hope for is to become a niche sport like hockey is and I don't think it will even do that.

Adult Search Results 01-12-2007 09:32 AM

you think hockey is a niche sport in the US?

DaddyHalbucks 01-12-2007 09:37 AM

We are in the wrong business.

I am from the states and 4 years ago moved to Canada

Hockey isn't even a blip on the radar compared to here in Canada.

You cannot get a seat in a pub or bar on hockey nights up here.

Rubbish. You clearly no nothing about the game of football. I don`t think basketball will ever be called "the beautiful game" lol

loco12 01-12-2007 01:03 PM

Well Becks has done a great deal.

The biggest name in the sport, regardless of whether he ios past his best, gets a cool deal of $250 million for 5 years.

How does that compare to the american sports no one in the rest of the world plays? American football? Baseball, or basketball?

The USA does have a few good players in europe, but with no history they are never going to be a world force.
