Which Country Has the Grossest Delicacy? (PICS)
Here we have Smalahovud. This I believe is from the Norway area.
Smalahovud is sheep's head, which is burnt, salted and then boiled. They eat meat from the cheek, can eat both the tongue and the eyes. Smalahovud can we eat as Christmas food, with potatoes and mashed swedes. http://static.flickr.com/11/92632247_4f430985d2_m.jpg - http://www.bjorkasen.no/bcd/bcd0-99/bilder/smalah.gif Post your pics and locations. There has to be some crazy shit out there. |

Foie gras (pronounced FWAH grah) is fatty liver, in this case the fatty liver of a duck or a goose. In ancient times, the Romans fattened up the ducks by feeding them figs. These days, it's a mixture of corn and grains.
This shit is actually pretty damn good. But where it comes from is kinda questionable. http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniont...es/food280.jpg |

And hey, we have more yummy food from Norway as well. To mention a few favorites: 1. Lutefisk lu·te·fisk (lū'tə-fĭsk') pronunciation also lut·fisk (lūt'fĭsk') n. A traditional Scandinavian dish prepared by soaking air-dried cod in a lye solution for several weeks before skinning, boning, and boiling it, a process that gives the dish its characteristic gelatinous consistency. [Norwegian : lut, lye (from Swedish, from Old Norse laudhr, soap, foam) + fisk, fish (from Old Norse fiskr).] http://growabrain.typepad.com/growab...s/lutefish.jpg 2. Tørrfisk (Dry fish) http://dmg.tuwien.ac.at/wallner/sd/i.../toerrfisk.jpg and of course the ever popular; 3. Baby Seal http://www.veganpeace.com/animal_cru...s/BabySeal.jpg :thumbsup :thumbsup |
Not even close,
In southern India, for example, a big Sunday lunch among the Anglo-Indian community might feature the local delicacy kutti pi?a cooked animal fetus. Watch Video http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...oat-video.html Yummy........ |

A balut is a fertilized duck egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell. They are considered delicacies of Asia and especially the Philippines, China, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein, hearty snack, baluts are mostly sold by street vendors at night in the regions where they are available. They are often served accompanied with consumption of beer. The Filipino and Malay word balut(balot) roughly translates to mean "wrapped". Balut are most often eaten with a pinch of salt, though some balut-eaters prefer chili and vinegar to complement their egg. The eggs are savored for their balance of textures and flavors; the broth surrounding the embryo is sipped from the egg before the shell is peeled and the yolk and young chick inside can be eaten. All of the contents of the egg are consumed. http://www.libertaddigital.com/fotos...as/subalut.jpg Bon Apetit, ADG Webmaster |

It can't really get much worse than LIVE MONKEY BRAINS. :eek2
"The cook at the inn said that the traditional way to eat monkey brains was to seal its mouth and tie it tightly under a special table, with a hole in the center, so that only the monkey's head peaked above. Then the monkey's hair was shaved, the skull was cut open, and the brains were eaten while it was still alive. Sometimes the monkey's mouth was not sealed tightly enough, resulting in miserable screams or moans from under the table. This method is too cruel by current standards however, and has thus been changed: the monkeys are inebriated and the brains are eaten after they lose consciousness. For the residents of Pingxiang, it is not extraordinary to eat monkeys. A gourmet can buy monkeys in the markets and send them to the inns for cooking. The cooks first force the monkeys in the cage to drink rice wine to make them drunk, then pull them out from the cage and bind their limbs ( to prevent them from awakening), then they chop open their skulls with a sharp knife, and then scoop out the white brains, the blood vessels still pulsing, easily visible. They serve the brain as soon as possible, and dig the brains out when they are still warm, eating them with some seasonings, such as pickled ginger, chili pepper, fried peanuts, cilantro and so on. The gourmet chews and swallows the brains and feels great, while the monkey kicks the bucket still drunk!"
