Pet Peeve of the Day

North American Drivers

Is it just me, or do people not know how to drive in North America? First, on the highway you get guys driving 100 in the fast lane while all the other lanes are clear. You go down to the US and it's even worse. I think the problem here is that people think it's a "fast lane" when in reality it is a lane that should be used for passing not driving the speed limit in. When I learned to drive, I was taught that when someone is coming up behind you fast you should move into the other lane, but I find that this rarely happens. Probably these fuckers driving like grannies in the fast lane think that because they are on the highway they don't need to check their mirrors, but at night what is the excuse? You can't tell me that when you have lights reflecting in your iris you can't notice me. Move the fuck over, I don't want to pass you on the right because it's not really fair and it's not really safe (obviously I do it anyways because what else am I supposed to do...go insane?). I don't really care what speed you want to drive...just get out of the fast lane if you are going the speed limit and for god sakes when you see someone coming up behind you like they are going for penetration move over.

Second, who taught you how to park? Nobody...maybe it's time to learn. How many times do you see someone going to Parallel Park and they have no clue what they are doing? I wish I had a dime for every time I?ve seen someone try to park...they try once, twice, three times...you get the point, and then upon realizing that they look like a retard give up and go twenty feet down the road just to repeat the same process. Isn't parking and being able to properly navigate in reverse important? Maybe people should learn.

That's all I?ve got. I don't mean any offence. But people should learn how to drive and be courteous while driving. That way we won't have to start pulling our hair out the next time we're trying to get somewhere in a reasonable amount of time

I learned driving around toronto that on a three lane road, you could identify the lanes as "left lane, center lane, fast lane". Everyone and thier dog gets on the road and immediately goes to the left lane because "they want to get their faster" and then they drive 100-110. The middle lane runs about the same speed with about 50% less cars, and the right lane is empty, making it into the new fast lane.

I almost forgot:

When someone lets you in, give a little wave to show that you appreciate the courtesy. They could have just as easily not let you in.

Whenever someone doesn't give me the wave it really pisses me off. Then the next time someone tries to get in I am hesitant to let them and then they get pissed of, and so on down the line until all the drivers on the road are pissed.

So give a wave, it's easy, it even burns calories and it's fun for the whole family, get the kids involved, make it a game, whatever, just do it.

That reminds me about the asshole who won't let people in. I see you everyday. Are you really that much further along if you don't let me in? Besides, no matter how close you pull up to the car in front of you, I can still squeeze in. Once again, lets show some courtesy and maybe everyone will have a bit of a better day.

I agree with you on the fast lane and also with the wave, I ALWAYS wave when someone lets me cut in. My wife gets a kick outta me because I'll even do it twice if I didn't think they saw it the first time, ha ha.

Another thing that pisses me off about driving on a highway are assholes that don't use their blinkers to switch lanes, especially when they decide to cut in front of you.

I just hate everyone else on the road other than me.

My point as well.

hahaha, wait until you are on a 2 lane highway, in the right lane, and someone behind you starts flashing their lights wanting to pass... hello! what do you want me to do? pull off the road? pass on the left moron!

There are bad drivers everywhere. Hell i live in a city where the median age is 60...wanna talk bad drivers! I see them stop in the middle of the road all the time for no apparent reason.

I live in the south, so I have to deal with rednecks on the road who think they are Dale Earnhardt! Some of them even have numbers on their cars. :)

rowan 01-17-2007 11:22 PM

Brad, are you one of those guys that tailgates people that are overtaking in the fast lane (at a legal speed) and cannot move back safely yet?

inthecrack 01-17-2007 11:29 PM

I have to agree with you on all your points. However Brad, I'd say you're easily pissed off. Road rage is mostly people such as you.

BTW if you think driving in North America is hairy you should try driving in India. Check this out. https://youtube.com/watch?v=RjrEQaG5jPM
