Fuck Kyoto Protocol

The two biggest polluters on the planet China and India are not required to follow it why the fuck should America sign that piece of shit?

Twisted Dave 01-17-2007 08:20 PM

Wait ... it's a piece of shit .... ? Why?

notabook 01-17-2007 08:21 PM

Women that get raped in certain third world countries will sometimes get stoned to death and the rapist often gets off nearly scot-free. Since they don't aggressively go after rapists in those countries why the fuck should America?

WarChild 01-17-2007 08:41 PM

Kyoto is a fucking joke that will have next to no effect anyway. Well, other than smaller countries getting rich selling their polution quota to countries like the USA.

Well, sorry .... but the USA blurts out so much fucking pollution it's unreal. The companies involved wont lower emmissions enough because of cost.

But hell ... if people are that short sighted.

I'm sure other countries are bad too ... but that doesn't mean that the USA should say no to helping the world.

This makes sense completely.

It's not a blame game. IT's taking responsibility as a human race for our planet and future generations.

It's a matter of prescience
No not the science fiction kind
It's all about ignorance,
and greed and miracles for the blind.

The media paradin'
Disjointed politics
Founded on petrochemical plunder
And we're its hostages!

If you stand to reason
You're in the game
The rules may be elusive
But all pieces are the same.

And you know if one goes down
We all go down as well
The balance is precarious
As anyone can tell.

This world's going to Hell...

Don't allow
This mythologic hopeful monster to exact its price
Kyoto now
We can't do nothing and think someone else will make it right.

You might not think it matters now
But what if you were wrong?
You might not think there's any wisdom
In a fucked up punk rock song.

But the way it is
Can not persist for long
A brutal sun is rising
On a sick horizon.

It's in the way
We live our lives
Exactly like the double edge
Of a cold familliar knife.

And supremacy
Weighs heavy on the day
It's never really what you own
But what you threw away.

And how much did you pay...

Don't allow
This mythologic hopeful monster to exact its price
Kyoto now
We can't do nothing and think that someone else will make it right.

In your dream
You saw a steady state of bounty for eternity
Silent scream
But now the wisdom that sustains us is in full retreat.

Watch out

Don't allow
This mythologic hopeful monster isn't worth the risk
Kyoto now
We can't have vision for the future if it can't be fixed

Alien
We need a fresh and new religion to run our lives
Hand in hand
The arid torpor of inaction will be our demise.

Ohhhhh
Kyoto now!

China is WORSE(watch that video above). So we should bow down and suck the worlds nutsack while China and Indian dont give a fuck? That makes no sense and leaves us in a position of weakness, abiding by Kyoto while China and India ignore it will not help at all.

Kyoto is a step in the right direction. It wont solve the problem by a longshot, but its a start. The European countries are doing it very well..why cant the US do it too. And canada is no better. We signed it, and thats about it.

As for why the US should have to follow it, and not india and china. Well, look at it this way. The US has been pumping shit into the atmosphere for decades. Kyoto didnt exist and they were free to pollute and develop their economies. India is a developing country. Since they havent polluted anywhere near as much as the US, it should be their right to at least be able to play catch up, to match what the US has spewed, so that they may be able to develop their economies freely like the US did. Or would you prefer the US and other developed countries get preferrential treatment and tell the others to fuck off?

Let's be sure we all understand the effect of Kyoto, really.

- The effect of Kyoto would be to reduce warming by .04 degrees Celsius in the year 2100
- The Kyoto Protocol calls for the industrialized countries to cut their greenhouse gas emissions to 5.2% below 1990 emission levels for the period 2005 - 2012.
- Developing countries do not have to cut emissions.
- The Kyoto treaty expires in 2012.
- The Kyoto treaty has some serious flaws. For isntance, countries like Greenland which produce next to no emissions at all would be allowed to "sell" their quota on the open market. Industrialized nations could then "buy" this excess quota, allowing them to continue pumping the same levels of pollutions in to the air they historically have been. In this scenario, the net effect on the enviroment is really nothing other than economics. If the goal ultimately is to stop pollution, shouldn't we just give Greenland a gold star and not allow them to sell their "right" to pollute?

So if the Kyoto treaty were extended to the year 2100, the net change in "Global Warming" would be .04 degrees Celsius. Since the treath actually expires in 2012, the real effect is much less pronounced.

Now people will argue that you can't judge Kyoto on its own merrit. Rather, you must look at it as a step towards stricter controls that must follow the expiration of Kyoto. So far nobody's rejected the idealogy of cleaning up the enviroment, simple said that this is not the way to do it.

We got Splum complaining about India and China when the US still leads the world in consumption of natural resources - with only 5% of the world's population and consuming 25% of resources.

But.. you are correct - the US along with China and India are the biggest polluters on the planet while the rest of the world is paying to clean up your crap - as usual.

Basically the US (and the others above) failed to do anything - as usual. The Treaty expires in 2012 - in the meantime, continue to screw up your own backyard and don't worry about other nations.

Kyoto makes no difference, even if we would have signed it. The earth is in a NATURAL WARMING CYCLE. Now who is "narrowminded" and "foolish" you dont have a single reputable source that global warming is accelerated by humans.

Give it ten or so years and these "oxygen shares" will be traded on the markets.

China has already spent billions in purchasing oxygen quotas - and some of that was spent where we are now :) At least they are aware and attempting to comply - which is more than can be said of the US.

Sure Kyoto is flawed - what isn't? It's a negotiated Protocol among.. think 140 countries who are all haggling over air - the result is going to look like it was created by a govt on drugs, but is a first level attempt to clean up crap.

Typical stupid statement Splum... Of course it makes a difference... If there was any interest in doing anything about it, I can think of a few areas in the US which was heavy forest land and is now an decimated area where the trees now have no leaves and the whole area is dying from clouds of industrial spewage however over these valleys...

Crap about the "US issue" of global warning carries no weight - the rest of the planet already know of the problem and don't bury their heads in the sand. That's why there are 130 -140 nations attempting to reduce ommissions under Kyoto - don't whine about them till you start cleaning your own back yard.
