96ukssob 01-18-2007 06:15 PM

sucks for sure. but it is only in public areas like lobbies and shops, so I can kindn of see it. you can still smoke at the bars and casinos tho

madawgz 01-18-2007 06:16 PM

no smoking in VEGAS?!?! what the fuck :(

4Man 01-18-2007 06:31 PM

That is bad..........:(

Mr Pheer 01-18-2007 06:34 PM

It pretty much just applies to restaurants and shopping areas. Only a few areas in the casinos are affected.

As much as you have a right to smoke, other people have a right not to breathe the 2nd hand smoke if they dont want to. Nobody is saying you cant smoke, you just cant smoke in certain areas. Doesnt sound that harsh to me.

I believe there is a town in California where its illegal to smoke anywhere... Calabassas I think.

wdsguy 01-18-2007 06:34 PM

damn right its about time. way to go vegas!

NETbilling 01-18-2007 06:36 PM

Light em up! Thanks for the cigar party. It was greeat.

Mitch

SilvercashJeanette 01-18-2007 06:37 PM

Yeah, that part kinda sucked. It was either walk all the way to the casino and smoke, or light up outside in the freezing cold. Lol I choose the casino. Lmao My legs are killing me. But Mr. Pheer does have a very good point.

wyldworx 01-18-2007 06:38 PM

The same is happening here, it is all to do with giving the quality of life that is sought.

Spunky 01-18-2007 06:40 PM

It's been like that around here for years..I'm just waiting until they make smoking in your own car illegal

there is one and a half million people living here... should they all move?

seriously man, dont you think its a little selfish to be complaining that you cant smoke in just a few areas?

Mr Pheer 01-18-2007 07:12 PM

by the way... this law was voted on by the registered voters of Nevada. Its not just an ordinance enacted by the Governor of Nevada or the Mayor of Las Vegas. Its just how things work in a democratic society.

bareskin 01-18-2007 07:15 PM

I think Bush had something to do with it :1orglaugh

EBORG9 01-18-2007 07:20 PM

But the part of that, that you dont see, is a lot aof bars are having to make the decision of having smoking for their gamers, or having food, and not letting their gamers smoke.
Poker machines bring in more than the kitchen, so, most bars that couldn't get an exclusion, just closed the kitchen..putting about 20% of the local bar industry out of work, and serverly crippling the income of most Grave Yard Bartenders.
It may have been a long time coming but punishing bars that are 21 and over anyway, under the pretense of protecting children from 2nd hand smoke, is just wrong, and it put a lot of people out of work.

especially from 12am to 8 am. If you are out that late, you get what you get, screw you.

I shouldn't have to put mine out at 5 am...who the fuck is out at 5am except for smokers?

Well i agree and i dont, if you look at the town of Las Vegas, it was built by those who travel there to deposit money into the your banks....lol

Those who travel to Las Vegas go there for a few reasons to gamble cut loose and live a life on the edge for the time we are there, its Vegas ...that's what Vegas used to be.

I spoke to a number of people working there that see a decline in business, but what ever change is here, and we have to deal with it...it just sucks, been going there since i was a small kid, and it was all part of the Vegas experience...

DWB 01-18-2007 07:41 PM

Good. Every building in every city should have a dedicated smoking area.

Smoke away, but please keep it away from the people who don't want to be around it.

Tourism here keeps growing. Plus its the slowest time of the year. The decline in business they are seeing at the moment will pick back up soon.

I dont smoke, and I dont really care if others smoke as long as they arent sitting at my dinner table and blowing smoke in my face. If I go to a bar or casino, I expect to be around people that are smoking. I didnt really understand either of the 2 laws that were on the ballot so I didnt vote for or against either one. One passed, one didnt. The one that didnt pass would have resticted smoking much more than it is now I believe, cant remember the exact details though.

EBORG9 01-18-2007 07:47 PM

Yes, it was very confusing, and it worked to their advantage. I think that was the plan all along, confuse the voter.
even when I walked in to vote, I made a call to one of my freinds at PT's to ask which one I should vote for, to keep smoking in bars, ...he told me and I still don't know if i voted for the right one.

DWB 01-18-2007 07:49 PM

For what it's worth, in Kentucky where my USA home is... it's 100% full on smoking. hahaha.

Sucks when I go out to eat because even the few seats that are reserved for non-smokers, is right next to the smokers and I'm pretty sure everyone in KY smokes, so it really doesn't matter where you sit.

:-(

Smokers will win the battle in Kentucky. It's the tobacco state!

Hell House Vic 01-18-2007 07:50 PM

When the law passed where I'm at it put a lot of bars out of business. People just stopped going to them. It's cold here for months and months and people figured, "Fuck it. I'm going to go to a bar, pay $5 a beer and have to step out into the cold for smoke? Don't think so."

That said, I thought these laws were passed to protect the employees? Unsafe work environment, etc. etc.

Unfortunately, I think the days of smoking indoors anywhere but home are numbered, and that's everywhere in the U.S.

If there is proof that second hand smoke causes lung cancer, all it takes is one lawsuit from one waitress with emphyzema to knock over the rest of the dominoes.

Twisted Dave 01-18-2007 08:21 PM

Quit smoking those disgusting cancer sticks and you'll not have to worry!!! :D hehe

MBS Auto 01-18-2007 08:24 PM

hmm.... seriously Vegas is begining to SUCK!!!!!!!!

RawAlex 01-18-2007 08:34 PM

What smokers don't realize is that the tide is coming up, and you all are going to be under water soon. More and more places are banning smoking in public areas, and because of potential liability issues, even apartment landlords are attempting to ban it within rental buildings.

Give it another 5 years, and there will not be very many places left to smoke at all.

reynold 01-18-2007 08:35 PM

You sure know how to have fun! :D

Sosa 01-18-2007 09:28 PM

I like non-smoking places. I wish more of them would do it.

Himuro 01-18-2007 09:58 PM

smoking is not good for you

A smoking ban in Vegas is like a condom ban in Bangkok.

Fuck the bureaucrats

We are not talking about ciggs ...i agree with those being cut out, i am talking about very expensive cuban cigars ....similar to a fine bottle of wine.

i am a father with a young child, would i take her to Vegas...NO...

Vegas is not for children....its for adults....consenting adults....this is what happens when voters get there hands on things...lol...i liked Vegas much better when the mob ran it, simple ...and amazing!

Next thing that "they" will be telling us is where we can sit or look etc...i just fucking hate being told what to do no matter what it is....fuck it....and fuck them...lol

You wouldn't know... I have made more trips to Vegas in the last 10 years that I wish I had (not for gambling reasons). I can pick you up and drive you around Vegas, North Vegas, and so on... without the map. I have flown to Vegas, driven to Vegas, driven through Vegas, been part of running shows in Vegas... and so on.

Anyway, it's not important, except to say you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Mike, I don't like YOU telling me I have to inhale your second hard smoke, without an option. Employees in the Casinos and bars have been forced for years to deal with your second hand smoke if they like it or not. Their choice is simple: Stay here, suck down the smoke and keep your job, or join the unemployment line. Die early from second hand smoke, or die early on the streets because you can't keep a job.

So kind of you to offer everyone a choice.

The majority of these people chose to move to Vegas, a place where people are smoking no matter where you go.

This reminds me of the people that built houses near the airport here that are now suing because it's too noisy.

RawAlex...you bring up a good point.... i think maybe a non smoking section for gambling, they had non smoking tables at one point. But since i was a kid there has been smoke in Vegas, there is another side to "loss" of money by workers, lot of jobs got cut out because of this new rule, i had one casino host breaking it down for me, i will see if i can google that info and snap it up here....

But there is two sides, and i am sure it will all be worked out, i just on a personal level hate being told what to do and where to do it....:2 cents:

flashfire 01-19-2007 01:49 AM
