An Inconvenient Truth

who's sceen this?

this movie scares the crap out of me more than any horror film

wyldworx 01-22-2007 12:31 AM

no I haven't!

J$tyle$ 01-22-2007 12:33 AM

I've been wanting to watch that.

Scary shit, huh?

notabook 01-22-2007 12:33 AM

I have and it scares the shit out of me as well -- listening to Al Gore's voice for two hours is far scarier than any horror movie I could ever imagine.

Jay_StandAhead 01-22-2007 12:33 AM

saw it. Hard to dismiss global warming after watching that documentary

Sambo 01-22-2007 12:34 AM

OK - What am I missing?

Edit - ok, I get it now.....

eroswebmaster 01-22-2007 12:35 AM

I can't wait for all of the naysayers to come scrambling in here to attempt to discount what a very large majority of scientists believe is happening...naysayers like StickyFingerz...and anyone who rides Bush's cock just like him.

WWC 01-22-2007 12:36 AM

I saw it...very interesting....rent it

aico 01-22-2007 12:39 AM

I've seen it, I am not worried anymore though, cuz Stickyfingerz says it's all made up.

Xplicit 01-22-2007 12:41 AM

As someone who doesnt like Al Gore, i still have to admit this is a documentry everyone should see.

I'll bite.

"Something is happening" but as of yet I don't believe what anyone is saying. Years ago it was the ozone layer, but that problem seems to have fixed itself - rather quickly too I might add.

The truth is that we are guests on this planet and we have been here long enough to gauge what the weather is really like. The weather is changing. It could be because we are doing some damage, or it could just be something that happens every few one hundred years or so.

The ozone layer is a perfect example. Ten years ago the story was we caused the ozone layer to disappear and that we were all gonna die. Don't tell me the meager actions we took fixed the problem so quickly. This was all just part of Eath's cycle and we had nothing to do with it.

There will always be people claiming gloom and doom. I'm not buying into it.

What I will buy into is the fact that oil is drying up. I'm trying to figure out what we'll do thirty years from now when we cannot make gasoline. Life as we know it will change radically overnight.

he-fox 01-22-2007 12:54 AM

I´ve seen it...:(

rodney25 01-22-2007 01:35 AM

I haven't seen it yet. What's more scary is that it is really happening. Nature has a force of its own, I think.

No offense, but you might want to do a little more research on the ozone and how it "fixed itself". The steps took were not "measely", and it was not 10 years ago, try almost 20. The Ozone Protection Act of 1989.

You are, however, correct, the ozone layer is a perfect example, an example of how changes will & can fix the problem.

WiredGuy 01-22-2007 02:07 AM

Scary isn't it.

I'm right there with ya' Sleazy. What scares me more is how many people can be in complete denial.

ServerGenius 01-22-2007 02:19 AM

The Ozone layer is far from fixed, it's slightly worse at best.

Natural Cause 01-22-2007 02:19 AM

People who believe in global warming are as dumb as people who believe in God or Religion.

ServerGenius 01-22-2007 02:21 AM

the ozone layer is pretty far from fixed. It's slightly less worse than it has been at best.

OzMan 01-22-2007 02:24 AM

Who says the ozone layer depletion problem is fixed? 2006 was the biggest "hole" on record and there are expected to be many seasonal variations and probably no complete recovery until 2065.

Lies, lies and damn statistics.

Do a Google Earth on Lake Chad (as it appears in the film).

VERY different picture IMHO.

NOT saying that there is not some basis in truth, but there is also an AWFUL lot of spin.

For a really interesting look at the scaremongering tatcis of statistics, grab yourself a book from the 90's by P.J. O'Rourke called "All The Trouble In The World" where he personally looks at and visits famine, pestilence and economic disaster zones. Fucking hilarious and fucking eye-opening.

:2 cents:

RawAlex 01-22-2007 02:27 AM

It is an interesting movie, but like many documentaries, they started out with the conclusion they wanted, and then went out to fish out the information that supports their cause. They aren't wrong (I tend to agree to a fair extent), but some of it is a little far fetched or stretching the truth a bit to make it fit.

No worse that a Michael Moore deal.

watch the movie. :2 cents:

it's REALLY worth it.

basically it says temp increases are a direct result to CO2 inclreases and has data to prove it - and it gets SCARRY

Which parts did you feel were a little far fetched, or when do you think they were stretching the truth a bit?

They also proved that the bible is pretty much fiction and yet people still believe that shit.

Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see. <-- good saying.

Sambo 01-22-2007 02:52 AM

Its funny how this has turned around - anyone remember the GFY wars over Global Warming a year or so ago?

ajaxporn 01-22-2007 02:54 AM

There is scientific consensus that the last Ice Age ended around 1850. Funny how neo-pagans like Al Gore never mention that.

Oh science, that thing that proves one thing, the proves otherwise. You know, like how scientists have said global warming is true, just like other scientists have said its bullshit.

This is what scares me about people. You can be faced with an overwhelming stack of facts (and not just from that movie as one source) and yet still believe it's not true. To me it's as dumb to NOT believe in the effect CO2 has on global warming as it is to take the bible as fact.

All this is a great example of the "cry wolf" type effect. People are so used to be lied to by officials that even when faced with a ton of evidence, as long as anyone raises doubt they are willing to believe in said doubt.

Congratulations folks... the propaganda machine has finally won. All they have to do is raise a doubt and you ignore straight scientific proof. I wonder if a bunch of politicians decided to declare the earth was flat again how many people would say the scientists just want us to believe it's round.

Put up some references please. I haven't found one SCIENTIFIC journal where any scientist denies global warming and CO2's cause on it. What I have found are links in MAINSTREAM media raising the question and since most people only read a headline in Newsweek and suddenly think that's the scientific community, it becomes fact in their heads. Do some research...

First let me guess, you haven't even seen the movie.

Second, the movie is not about whether global warming is true or not, it's about the exponential increase in CO2 in our atmosphmere and the effects that could have.

Third, name one scientist who says it is "bullshit". Just one, since you seem to know, shouldn't be too hard.

I'll wait why you try to Google it.

*looks at the dvd sitting in the dvd stand*

Dude, i couldn't even give you the name of a scientist who says its fact. Try Google? I can't be arsed. Theres studies which say that satellite and balloon observations which show a slight cooling since 1979, there are studies which show cooling everywhere except northen or midnorthen latitude.

Who really cares, the studies which show global warming show it increasing at something like 0.2 or 0.3 degrees every 10 years. I couldnt give a shit about a 1 or 2 degree change in my lifetime. It's not like theres reincarnation, unless you believe in that shit too.

Ya, didn't think you could do it. Imagine that, how'd I know a guy talking out his ass couldn't back up anything he says.

Ok, so now show me one study that says satellite and balloon observations show a slight cooling since 1979.

Doesn't it scare you that you have all these beliefs of fact in your head that you haven't even taken the time to verify as true or not? Someone just told you these things and you just believe it? Sad.
