Ok Vista is for sale in a week - am I gonna upgrade?
Who has it and is it worth the upgrade, dont care bout the $, I just wanna know if it has nice stuff makes the pc faster or whatever.
Thanks :thumbsup |
why not wait and make sure all your programs will work on it? Or install it on a second machine
|
How much costs?
|
I have it. It isn't compatible with old programs. Wait for the service pack to be released, which will fix all the initial bugs.
But it looks much better and has some neat features. You may wanna buy it for the kicks and use it as your secondary OS. |
i have it and i love it :thumbsup
|
The vista ultimate is about 569,00€ over here...pretty expensive for a buggy OS like this. Better think about a MAC :)
|
Its costs 450 for the release u should buy. The cheaper ones are crap, doesnt have the glass look and stuff.
PS: this is the upgrade price |
250 for the pro ones yes, I never buy the home version
so its not compatible with the older prgs hmm - I still use lotsa small older programs like Hypersnap |
Vista Ultimate is so expensive, especially for Retail. I enquired about a family pack and by all account you have to buy Vista Ultimate Retail($379), and then you can buy 2 x Home Premium for $49-99 each.
Considering Apple does a OS X 5 license family pack for $199, nearly $500 for 3 copies of Vista just blows. I actually want Vista, but the price and the whole license/activation headache just sucks. |

The vista RC didn't recognize my processors, so I might just wait a while before I go down that road.

If you're running Windows XP Pro I'd wait for at least a year. There will be a load of bugs, issues, incompatibalities, security holes, and general tweaks that need fixing within 6 months.
Biggest reason to avoid is the fact it'll be a major system hog. Even more so if you're machine is not top spec. The RAM needed and the Graphics Card requirements are pretty high for an OS. Also be wary of the copy protection/Digital Rights Management issues with High Definition and DVD's. Do some searches on the web, bbc news, the register etc to find out all the warnings being talked about. If you are crazy enough to use it make sure you've backed up everything from settings to files and programs on the PC you're gonna use it on. :Oh crap Later.. I. |

Much of the negative stuff out there comes from people's experiences with the various RC versions. I am intending to wait a fairly short time, and then upgrade when things look clear based on the actual finished product in the box, not the experiences of people use RCs and other "not done cooking" versions that are out there.
There will certainly be bugs, but then again, there are STILL bugs in XP. |
I am going to wait 6 or 7 months until all the patchs get done.
|
Linux is the best. Better choose Fedora Core 6.
|
Upgrade = Welcome to the world of DRM.
|
i think my next purchase will be Apple....

the out of the box is here Jan 30 but ill wait a few months see whats up So whats the DRM deal? DRM is there already I cant see why Vista has more issues with that then XP has? |
i got it on my 2nd pc and i like it
|
Wait for all the threads titled " Fuck, I just upraded to Vista and..."
|
i won't risk to upgrade till at least sp1 is released
|
im not touching vista for another year
|
I used it for a while.. wasn't compatible with some old versions of programs , for example, ulead video studio 8. I upgraded to ulead video studio 10 and the fucking thing renders mpegs that can't be viewed on half the computers out there.
So I went back to XP... vista looks pretty and im sure it'll be a good OS in the future, but i'd wait at least 6 months for all the software and hardware companies to catch up. |
not upgrading for a while for sure..
|
As a general rule of thumb you want to own N minus 1, with N being whatever the "newest" thing is.
With Microsoft products it's generally a good idea to wait until Service Pack 2 is released. That's my 2 cents. |

I think I'll wait for about 6 months after the release
