Got rid of Firefox

I love Firefox, and all of it's addons.

However... I can't stand watching it take up 99% of my system resources. I couldn't run outlook (Another system hog) and it at the same time.

I changed back to Opera, and what do you know, I don't go over 20% resources running everything.

drctfiesta 01-24-2007 03:38 PM

Do you know about Jebus?

nosey 01-24-2007 03:53 PM

No spyware, I have tons of programs for it. Firefox is just a pig on resources.

goldmine 01-24-2007 08:23 PM

Time to upgrade that stick of 256 :boyalley

american pervert 01-24-2007 08:30 PM

anthony is 100% correct.. FF has a huge issues with using system resources.

Nookster 01-24-2007 08:31 PM

True it is a resource hog...but, all you need to do is upgrade your memory and you won't have any major problems. :2 cents:

Doctor Dre 01-24-2007 08:32 PM

Not an issue here I'm never anywhere close to using my full memory.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 01-24-2007 08:32 PM

I run firefox with Outlook, trillian, eudora, etc all at the same time all day, every day, and my system is pretty shitty. Maybe there's some tweaking you need to do?

StuBradley 01-24-2007 08:37 PM

yeah...im running at 2% as i write this....using firefox.

Spunky 01-24-2007 08:57 PM

I was tired of it highjacking shit and losing bookmarks..Opera is good enough for me

VeriSexy 01-24-2007 10:30 PM

I love the extensions too much to give up FF

stickyfingerz 01-24-2007 10:34 PM

Cory W 01-24-2007 10:36 PM

madawgz 01-24-2007 10:37 PM

Pimpin_J 01-24-2007 10:48 PM

PAR 01-24-2007 10:48 PM

I have had the same problems with FF and IE7 on my laptop ... use Opra now and dont have any problems (I still use FF and IE7 for testing sites and all but for day to day Opra all the way)

pornguy 01-24-2007 10:56 PM

I dont have a problem with it, and this is a 3 year old laptop,

Haha, exactly. FireFox is the shit, but isn't for everybody. I got a system probably similar to yours so I'm all good and FireFox rarely causes problems. :thumbsup

SPACE GLIDER 01-24-2007 10:59 PM

I've never had a resourse prob with Firefox.

PHP-CODER-FOR-HIRE 01-24-2007 11:06 PM

It's sitting at 65 megs, with only this forum open...

It definitely takes up a lot of ram, but it's worth it IMO.

Cash 01-24-2007 11:12 PM

Do you have many add-ons from FF? Maybe they eat lots of resources ...

RawAlex 01-24-2007 11:15 PM

I have 4 windows open and firefox is using exactly 96908k. Heck, states remote is using 65000 or so. :)

If you were seeing high CPU usage, it was very likely that you had either a corrupted plugin or a similar issue. I have never seen firefox go to 99% without a defective plug-in of some sort (adobe reader version tend to hang, but they do the same thing too in IE).

Enjoy Opera, I guess. FF isn't an issue here.

NemesiS876 01-24-2007 11:16 PM

I am still with Firefox, and I don't have that problems ...

LiveDose 01-25-2007 12:00 AM

I dumped it the day I lost all my bookmarks.:321GFY

Martin3 01-25-2007 12:07 AM

It's most likely the plugins that were causing all your problems.

I keep one firefox window open 24/7 with about 20 tabs on it to monitor my sites, and other windows for surfing and shit. Never have any lock up or slow downs. Opteron 165 @ 2.7 might have something to do with that though :)

Memory usage can sometimes creep up close to 200megs but with 2gigs it doesn't matter.

BSleazy 01-25-2007 12:09 AM

I love firefox for most things but for some reason on the laptop I'm on right now everything just runs slower than slow. I click over to a new firefox window and everthing freezes up for about 15 seconds. Rediculous. No problems like that with IE7.

tony286 01-25-2007 12:13 AM

its working fine for me got a gig of ram and using less than half
