how is the EXPIRING DOMAIN game lately?
havent been following or doing it for a while...
is Pool still ruling the market like as 2-3 years ago? what are the best services right now? and also are there anymore domain dropping services left which are NOT auction based? |
This thread should be deleted. This is the ePassporte support forum and I can't see how this topic is relevant to that at all.

Pool = scammers.
|
None of the big players have a "fixed" fee for the droppings anymore. I think it's basically pool and snapnames that are ruling the game right now. However it is not as easy as it used to be as it has moved more towards a normal domain auction than a bargain catch.
|
Speaking about expired domains,is there any site except domaintools.com which give free monitoring of domains?

and speaking about the smaller services, aren't there really ANY left with a flat fee? I wouldnt mind paying $100 or whatever even if I had only 10% chance that I get the domain through some less popular service (although the domain name that im interested in, is probably "Reserved" by someone else already) |
and yes, good point - in pool.com you dont get any bargains anymore
if a domain name is worth f.e $50k, then chances you'll buy it on Pool for $10k are maybe 1% |
If you want a domain you gotta backorder at Pool + SnapNames + eNom and that will give you like 95% chance it will be caught.
Been getting some good deals at eNom, not as much competition as Snap and Pool. |
Backorders aren't what they used to be, as soon as you declare interest in one, it goes to the respective enom/pool/snap/godaddy public auction and quite a lot of waiting is involved as they try to see if anyone else can be alerted to your find.

Snap and Pool have worked out deals with certain Registrars that guarantee them dropping names. GoDaddy (who has the largest stock of Domains) sends all domains to TDNAM where you can compete for them.
Snap has quite a great rap going - I backorder many domains there as they almost always get what your after. However, often times the few big players tend to spend whatever it takes to get a domain name. Well over my head. Sometimes names that would get maybe 5-6k on the market, shoot up to 10-15k at Snap. I almost wish I could auction my names off at Snap like they were drops. (This seems to be the direction they are going) |
The domain name im interested in is with Network Solutions....

I have found a few good ones that simply dropped, and I got them for 8.88
|
network solutions has an exclusive deal with snapnames. all their expired names go there.
|
Best of luck Polish. You're name is now in the great black hole. You'd have an easier time buying sex.com at this point. :)

will they allow a new customer to bid up to $20k for a name though, heh? but I guess I have to clarify it with them |

if they allow only CC payments then I am fucked anyway, the only way I can pay them such amounts is with wire |
ok, enom's system.hm.. i believe I need to apply for a direct account with enom? or do they have a seperate url for their expiring service? I wish they'd be replying to emails as well
ah one more thing, godaddy's system, whats their success rate on average? or do they catch only the expiring names that drop from godaddy? from my understanding so far is that snapnames and pool have like 80% of the market I remember I was using namewinnner.com few years ago, looks like they were bought by snapnames already |

final bump for this thread, should anyone have some more input
|
I own expireddomians.com
|
i hate the idea that they are auctioning off expired domains. it should be first come first serve in my opinion. the same thing when the .mobi pre-reg came out. sure, if pool got them you could bid on them but all this did is line pools pockets big time. they were getting 5-10k on some names that didn't even cost them 70 bucks.
|
GoDaddy's drop service is dreadful. It's not even worth trying.
|
hey one more question (again) does anyone remember the url that states the daily success rates of various drop services?
|
Nice enlighting thread...

You also need to check the private auctions as they tend to only allow certain bids into those - even though they are still drops - and they will lock out the min.bidders - but you can still get some good finds in there - and I agree that Ive had better luck with snap - I remember the list youre thinking about but cant find it. |
I came across an interesting variation the other day... expired IPs! I ordered some new IPs from my host and one of them still has several domains pointed at it. Googlebot was busy looking over them when I discovered this unusual situation.
