Anyone live in NC?
 

I am thinking about buying a cabin over in NC maybe by Morganton. Anyone live in NC? How's the laws regarding working at home and pornography over there? Can anyone recommend a good town to buy a cabin in?

If you are looking for a cabin definitely check the Western part of the state. Asheville area. I believe that is where you are looking.

AEBN, Adam & Eve and many webmasters work in this state as an example. I work out of Raleigh, NYC & Miami... I believe the Turbo's are in NC.

I own a house in NC and grew up there. The recommendation on Asheville was a good one, and i would like to throw in Boone as well. As for working at home, you won't have any issues doing so, in this industy or any other. You obviously not allowed to setup a studio shooting films in your home, but working is fine.

I live in Chapel Hill. You should check that area out if you like culture and people who are NOT missing teeth. Anywhere else is great if you like Nascar, Championship wrestling and Hank Jr.

Hot Springs is REALLY cool, but kinda remote.........

I'm in Chapel Hill as well, both CH and Asheville are very liberal areas. Asheville is in the mountains and more of the hippy mountain type community whereas Chapel Hill reminds me more of Long Island NY, except nicer (in terms of people).

I personally like Chapel Hill simple because I'm 2 hours from the beach or 2 hours from the mountains and can do either in a day.

I live in Charlotte, if you want to buy a cabin you should check out Boone and Ashville. They're really cool towns.

NC's great...stick around Asheville for hippie girls, Charlotte for uptight Southern belles and Raleigh or Greenville for naughty college girls.

I live about 5 hours from Morgantown. Asheville is nice, but I guess I've been going there too long (30+ years) and I see how much it's grown up. I have friends with a condo in Sapphire Valley and another with a couple of houses in Maggie Valley. The values have skyrocketed. Growing up we had a place in Boone and again - totally overgrown now.

However, it has where I live too. Which ISN'T what I wanted. Now I'm looking at cashing out my house and property in a few years and finding a small town where no one else wants to live (which is what this USED to be, lol).

The Tennessee border is where I'm looking - it's bascially right there where TN, GA and NC meet - and no state income taxes :)

On Thursday, I am moving from Connecticut to Lake Gaston .. it's on the VA and NC border. Here's my view of the lake (unfortunately, on a rare cloudy day):

Most houses on the lake are over a million bucks now, but some of the small cabins are still $650,000 or so.

It has a great lake view, though (they're my neighbor, so I know, lol) .. but for some reason, they don't show it in the ad.

Always remember that unless you want to use it for gas powered boats, if you own enough property and have a water source (stream, creek, etc.) you can make your own lake :) The one I live on is about 7 acres with the water from the top of the mountain. Crystal clear. I can sit on my dock and see a 5 or 6 inch fish in the water (the HOA stocks it) 30-40 feet away :)

You can see my fancy boat there too. It's an inboard/outboard - you can put the oars IN the boat of OUT of the boat :)

It's also being redone this summer - getting rid of the wood and putting in a floating fiberglass dock. More importantly, getting rid of those slats which block my view when I sit down :(

Your place is too!! I love being on the water - ocean, creek, stream, lake - it's very calming to me.

I was VERY lucky and bought it back before the town exploded. In 6 years, it's gone up about 130% in appraised value. There are other adult biz folks around here who have had the same returns.

Right now I live at the end of a 4X4 road where 2 of us own all 6 of the lots so we'll be the only ones here, in a very secluded subdivision, but the town itself is just sprawling like crazy. I've been grabbing vacant lots to sell to the ATL retirees who are afraid to move to FL :thumbsup

Back to NC, my brother lives in Durham. He said there's a fine line between Durham and Raleigh with Raleigh being the higher end folks. Charlotte is like a mini-Atlanta to me and I hate Atlanta. The Outer Banks is my favorite place in NC, but that's almost VA and I only like to go off season. In case you can't tell, I'm not into crowded places to live :thumbsup

I wish I'd have gotten in when my dad did. He's probably seen 300% or more on his place -- he happens to live 3 doors down from the place I'm moving to Thursday.

I prefer Lake Gaston because A) it's got 350 miles of coastline, and B) it's within 30 minutes of "civilization" and close enough to Raleigh (where my dad's other house is) that I can escape the lake once in a while.

I'd have to try other places to see if I liked 'em.
