Do you really need banner ads if you have geo banners?

besides on galleries, when would someone use a static/animated banner when a nice geotargeting location banner would do?

Geo-ip can be good or bad. In general, surfers are smartening up. They know geo-ip just a trick, and have mixed reactions to that. And it just gets silly if every ad on a page is flashing your hometowns name. Besides, a significant number of geo-ip ads I see get the place wrong anyway. Why does this webmaster want me to know about all these horny singles 100 miles away? When it guesses wrong, that's worse than a generic.

well a good geo banner with i guess a good geo landing page would help increase the chance of them signing up?

Because they slow down the page load and your site then has to rely on the banners server to not have any issues etc.

I no longer use anyones "hosted" banners and shit like that anymore. Too many of them took way too long to load etc. and just made my site look like shit because of it. I still "try" out some occasionally but if they start to cause problems I yank them.
