Office furniture question

Ok I am having a hell of a time finding a compact small corner or L shaped desk for my desktop. I want it small and well everything I am coming across is fairly large sized.

Just needs room for a monitor, printer, a keyboard tray, and a tray for the box. Drawers or file cabinets would be a plus. Just has to fit into a corner.

So any ideas or suggestions aside from getting one custom?
Oh I like glass tabletops best.

My desk is becoming a disaster. I keep adding more and more and I don't even have room for the things I want. I was thinking about running an ad on Craigs List for a woodsman to build me something that meets my exact needs.

Barefootsies 02-16-2007 04:42 PM

I notice that the office places are going to smaller 'L' desks. I do not much care for it. I was looking at them a few weeks back.

I have a HUGE L desk that takes up half a room. I actually prefer a huge desk because I have two PC's on there, as well as everything I need. So I can keep everything in a controlled chaos.

I am thinking once I move later this year I may have to have one custom built if I cannot find a new one. Hell I would have them build it almost identical to what I have now. Just oak, or something other than particle board. I hate that shit.

I am just sick of a huge ass desk in my living room when most of it is unused and it is not a corner desk. One of those old school office desks, metal with drawers on each side.

RedShoe 02-16-2007 04:47 PM

A simple tabel man. I've tried using desks... I can't do it. I went to ikea, and bought some flat tables. Those work best. You can get damn near any size you want. A big flat surface works best. Once you start adding shelves and all that shit it gets cluttered.

Wow on the mental picture! For me I have my home office set up in a spare bedroom. It's easier to function having everything work related in the one room.

Much easier to sleep at night as well. I guess having that separate room, and door makes that jedi mind trick on myself work easier. When I had a roommate and everything was in my bedroom years ago. It was hard to get things done with TV and distractions everywhere.

:2 cents:

HAHA, well if you really understood my house or hell me it may may some since.
My living room has the following in it:
Kitchen table.
Two bookshelves.
Grandfather clock.
Three kitchen table chairs.
A compact stereo.
And my monster desk.

No couch, no TV, hardly anything. My house is fairly small as I have never needed to much space and hell its paid for. It really only has a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and two bedrooms. Never have many guests so no reason for a couch or TV in living room. Hell I wouldnt even have chairs if it wasnt for the fact that my fiance needs somewhere to sit. :winkwink:

I'd have to recommend Ikea as well. Not sure about the ones in Americaland, but down here now you can buy pre-cut parts and make up your own desk, which is pretty neato.

I hear ya though man. In all seriousiness, when my old roomie moved out for the better part of two years I had my office, bedroom, and nothing else. No furniture, nada. But the chickies would complain so I went out and bought some furniture, and pictures, etc. So it looks like a housebroken male lives here. BUt I am never in the living room, and they do not sit in there either. It's straight to bedroom. Just as it was before with no furniture.

Shit? You must be at the wrong site.

This almost sounds EXACTLY like what you are looking for.
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...umber=00077546

http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/50125_PE146078_S4.jpg

I use 4 of these,
http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/30761_PE119412_S4.jpg with the matching legs. That's it.

here is the link to the work station area.
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=15600

Just click on desks or any of those links on the left.

After Shock Media 02-16-2007 05:55 PM

Hey redshoe can you locate the drawer unit that is mention with that desk as being compatible?

I suck at searching their site apparently.

RedShoe 02-16-2007 06:12 PM

Damn, I looked as well and couldn't find it. The corner desk is 28 3/8" tall. And it's the Tovik line.
I did a search here for Tovik http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...d=12&langId=-1 and only came up with that one thing. They are usually pretty good at finding shit if you call them. Tell them it said to use the Tovik drawer on the Tovik desk page.

RedShoe 02-16-2007 06:12 PM

You could always just find a drawer that comes close to the same dimensions that you want.

They sell something like this at most any store like walmart kmart etc for around 30 apiece but if you take two in a corner you get quite a bit of room plus i like the legs being so small so my office chair fits under it easily. They probably make them bigger and nicer but toss some fabric ontop and you cant even tell what is under there. Here is one that is rated at 2500 pounds if you are worried about it being flimsy.

Not a corner desk and also not wheelchair friendly. Thanks though.
