The fascination about prison. Is it just Americans?
Seems every channel I turn to lately is about some prison documentary.
What is the fascination about it? Other then it being a huge business. Also is it just Americans or do other countries have the same fascination? We lock people up for being bad (Supposedly) then we want to see them act like animals what a fucked up system. It shouldnt be glorified in anyway. |
we have so many in there its gotta make good TV how many people have relatives in prisons across the contry
|
A lot of prisoners watch TV.
|
I completely agree. I think prison shows and police shows should be banned from television, with the exception of educational shows.
Those "World's Wildest" video shows are sort of glorifying police actions and criminal actions. It seems that these shows want to create a police state or something... The same goes for prison shows... it is as if they show the prison to scare people into conforming completely... just my :2 cents: though.. |
not sure...but i refuse to watch them
i guess it is like how everyone loves the guy who gets them cheap stuff that fell off the back of a truck...everyone is a bit shady |
Everything is glorified these days music, drugs, violence, cops, criminals etc etc.
Saying it should not be glorified is like saying there should not be any violence in video games or that singers should not be able to make music about drugs. It is human nature to want to peek into anything that is not a part of your regular day. |
Because watching "Prison Break" is less gay than watching Men's Ice Skating but just as satisfying.

i love being outside.

Is it just Americans?

Hi Roger,
I don't know if it is a fascination unique to Americans, but I have a story related to this topic. Last week I was in the local Pizza shop waiting for a take-home order. While waiting, I noticed they had a documentary about prison life playing on the plasma widescreen. All of the pizza patrons were glued to the widescreen...they were fascinated. Why? Perhaps we are curious about what happens to bad people. |

I dont think Europeans have the same fascination. |
Which shows are you referring to? I've notieced plenty of documentaries about murder, law, and forensics (American Justice, Cold Case Files, City Confidential) but not prison per se.
|
Yep I have noticed an increasing amount of shows about prison...but there are definately more just about crime in general. Actually just to prove that it can be a bad influence on some people:
I remember a few years ago there was an episode of one such program, which showed people using famaldihyde in relation to drugs...then the next day after it aired, a funeral parlour was robbed of it's entire stock of famaldihyde. Coincidence?...I think not! :Oh crap |
msnbc at night is the prison channel lo

It isn't just the states..the UK is like that too now. It is part of the whole glamorization of criminals. Over here it is old style British gangsters that are talked about like they were gods over there it is other types of criminals that are treated like worthy celebs.

prison documentaries
You never see a lot of Asians in prison ???
It's also ironic you should say that considering you are tatted up in a way that "used to anyway" only be done in prison ? Not downing you very nice work just an :2 cents: ... we love bad guys we love gangsters we love slutty blonde bimbos we love drug addicts we love tragedy we love to put people on a pedestal then tear them down most of all we love to put in on video and watch it ! :angrysoap |
without getting into a long, drawn-out i think primarily because it's a world that the majority of people will never know and there's a curiosity that goes along with that.
|
I watched 3 hours worth yesterday, those guys are smart as fuck, they went through how they get drugs into the prison, and what they are making weapons from, how they give orders, organize gangs, kill people on the outside. Fascinating shit, thats why i kept watching.

Probably for the same reason people are interested in gangs, mobs, drugs, murders, etc. Its something most people have little to no experience in, therefore they don't know how it operates. People are curious. They want to know.
|
people are fascinated by shit that scares them. Monsters/evil/sharks/viruses/etc/etc/etc I don't know about you, but the thought of going to prison scares the SHIT out of me.
|
I just want to make sure I don't drop the soap and thats it.

here's the Freudian answer
prison is a center for alpha males and the subliminal thought is that alpha male straight guys get a pass for being gay in prison. :2 cents: it's OK there... those that are glued to it are the closet homosexuals or people who are just a litle bit gay and havn't admited it to themselves and are intrigued by the whole idea of it. |

that doesn't scare you? |

Why is it that it is always blamed on Americans on this forum? Who cares if people want to watch shows on prisons or cops. I watch the tv shows Cops. I like it, if you don't, then turn the channel. I think people in general have a facination with criminals and murder. My wife is studying forensics and she is always watching Forensic Files, The First 48, Cold Case Files, etc. Her favorite channel is Court TV. People like crime and murder, just not when it happens to someone they know. They like to watch shows on real crime stories. It may be fucked up, but that is the way it is. It is not an American thing, it is human nature. |

If I went into hell and met the devil and recorded it on my cellphone would you watch it?

The thing with reality shows, etc, is that people get to look into situations and scenarios that they would never be in, etc. Cops, robbers, etc, etc, is interesting to people because they can vicariously live through that scenario while eating nachos. :D |
