What do you use for Virus Protection?

Before I pay money to update my Norton AntiVirus I thought I would ask what other people use / like?

Does anyone know the difference between Norton 360 & Norton Internet Security 2007?

Ice 02-26-2007 01:06 PM

a Mac... :)

PSGuru 02-26-2007 01:07 PM

Avast, it's free and doesn't eat up resources like Norton does.

a mac with macscan, even better. :thumbsup

MediaGuy 02-26-2007 01:09 PM

I would sooner pay for AVG anti-virus and anti-spyware package... but the free version is good enough to keep me happy and digital VD-free :P

It's also lighter, updated more often, and not a dumbninny "security" program that barely lets you leave your homepage before warning you the web is ending and your life is in danger so it's not allowing you to hit anywhere (grr)

Mike Semen 02-26-2007 01:10 PM

Kaspersky. :)

Porko 02-26-2007 01:11 PM

Good luck with that.

AVG, Firefox, and I refuse to run any program, install any tool, toy, 'codec', or anything. If it doesn't work with generally-vanilla JS+Flash, I don't need it, either.

Yeah, I'm a real hit at parties.

VicD 02-26-2007 04:48 PM

NOD32, for over 3 years, nothing comes close

Oracle Porn 02-26-2007 04:48 PM

BitDefender + Ad-Watch + Spybot S&D

pornguy 02-26-2007 04:59 PM

Condoms. But if you mean for your puter. then try trendmicro.com they are awesome.

Scott McD 02-26-2007 04:59 PM

I use Avast ! Never had any problems...

SpeakEasy 02-26-2007 05:22 PM

Nortons works very well as long as your puter is good and can handle the resource hog . :2 cents:

Farang 02-26-2007 05:26 PM

Nod32 + Zonealarm security suite

OK well changing over to a mac would be just a bit too much work for me. :)

So its between Kaspersky, Nod32 & Avast.

DWB 02-26-2007 10:29 PM

I don't use anything and I have a PC.

I NEVER open .exe that is not a program I loaded and I never open attachments. I block all pop-ups and guess what? My machines run smooth as a baby butt.

aico 02-26-2007 10:40 PM

OS X, it's bulletproof, even after they announce vulneralbilities.

Forest 02-26-2007 10:52 PM

magnums

:thumbsup

EBORG9 02-27-2007 12:49 AM

Avast. Never a problem...EVER!

AnnaSucks 02-27-2007 01:01 AM

Yeah, another "no" vote for Norton. I don't know if it makes any difference if you install it yourself instead of buying a computer with Norton already installed, but the latter has given me so many headaches it's not even funny.

On my new pc it unfortunately came with the package. It uses too much of my resources as mentioned, disables .gif images in my browser, and now when the subscription is about to end it bugs me every day with alerts. And only now when they want me to re-subscribe, it's been reminding me that I'm "being protected against a rapidly spreading threat". It really seems that they want me to think I'll get attacked the second my subscription ends and the only way for me to be safe is to renew my subscription.

I'd unistall it this very second if I could be sure it didn't cause me even more problems. I tried unistalling it on my laptop a while ago as for example on top of the subscription alerts it scanned the the entire content of a folder every time I opened one. I'm sure you can imagine how much resources that eats.

Well, Norton just refused to be uninstalled, and not letting it start up when I start my computer caused even bigger problems. I was not able to get to secure https:// pages to name one. I had to do some reading about how to uninstall Norton, and judging from the amount of horror stories having an expired Norton on you're computer, bugging you till the end of time is the lesser of two evils.

I really wish the only way to get a computer without a 90 day Norton subscription wouldn't be to build one yourself. Or maybe I'm just stupid.

Adultnet 02-27-2007 01:17 AM

I like the Microsoft internet security free package. And its doing a good work with Norton Anti virus ...:)

gimilin 02-27-2007 01:30 AM

I thought it is free.

PHP-CODER-FOR-HIRE 02-27-2007 01:32 AM

AVG is a great free antivirus.

NOD 32 is a great paid antivirus.

gecko 02-27-2007 07:34 AM

nod32 for me

salesman 02-27-2007 08:08 AM

zonealarm + NOD32 on 4 computers and no problems

DutchTeenCash 02-27-2007 08:10 AM

kick norton

its slow it slows your pc down and expensive - many others are WAY better

bitdefender here - happy as can be

bobby666 02-27-2007 08:15 AM

i use my imac for protection

Nikki_Licks 02-27-2007 08:28 AM

I have been using NOD32 and it has done a great job. The only quirk I have with NOD32 is I have to disable it to make any purchases online. That is my only complaint to date. When I figure that one out all will be fine ;(

thederek 02-27-2007 08:31 AM

Norton is the WORST offender for system resource hogging... I use AVG Free, and haven't looked back. Of course, I'm also enjoying using nothing on my mac, but for PC, you can't go wrong with AVG.

Galina Los 02-27-2007 08:38 AM

NOD32 for life fellas! I like this soft! no shit!

Babaganoosh 02-27-2007 09:51 AM

Yet another vote for Nod32. I switched to Nod32 from Panda this year and am loving it.

bastardsquad 02-27-2007 10:09 AM

Kaspersky :glugglug

Kaspersky, hon. You'll never regret it.

aroy3719 02-27-2007 10:49 AM

AVG free edition.
Beacuse it doesn't slow down my laptop like Norton or Avast.

reyz007 02-27-2007 10:53 AM

.
vote for NOD32
.

Sinstar 02-27-2007 10:56 AM

I use Avast and haven't had any problems. Except having my speakers up one time when it found a virus. That will wake you up for sure.

Brooke Anderson 02-27-2007 11:01 AM

Had Norton, dropped it for BitDefender.. Can't say I am very happy with it. Great advice thread. Might have to change it out.

LadyMischief 02-27-2007 11:40 AM
