It isn't a shakedown. The students downloaded copyright material without paying the price. They are in violation, and it is up to them to prove that they aren't.

Perhaps maybe if some adult companies were equally as aggressive about protecting their copyright material, it would be easier to actually SELL porn.

yeah quite a few students at University of Nebraska got caught.

That's bullshit. why go after kids who are already indebt? They'll just declare bankruptcy because they can't pay and then they are screwed for years. The music business makes enough money as it is. Besides if they put more time and energy into developing artists that are going to last more than a record or two maybe they would start making more money. I have no sympathy for the music biz these days, they are worse than the movie industry for copying the popular format and reproducing it as many times as possible. The fact that Ferggie is a solo artist shows how in trouble the industry is. Music is not longer an art form, it's a money making machine that could care less what product is produced.

and if these same college students were trading passwords to your sites or putting up sites with your content you would not have a problem with that?

1. The music biz is not unduly profitable.
2. How bad can the music be if people want to download it?
3. Piracy is theft.
4. If the kids don't care about their circumstances, why should anyone else?
5. When, to the music industry was music ever an art form?

So if you caught a student ripping off your car stereo and CD's...You wouldn't call the police or do anything about it?

Brad, great logic. Why go after bank robbers, after all, if they had money, they wouldn't be robbing banks. It's society's fault, right?

Money making machine or not, it is THEIR money making machine, and they have all the rights that come with it.

Perhaps you would like to keep the college kids amused by giving them all fre access to your members sites, or perhaps give them all DVDs of the content so they don't have to bother actually even surfing?

Yeesh!
