Is This PC Worth it?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=2&NoMapp=0

I'm in the need for a new PC, mine is about 3-4 years old, and my laptop is only 2 years old but the processor is really slow. I spotted this one on Tiger Direct and want to know if its a good deal. I know it's refurbish, does that make a huge deal?

I'm not a major gamer, I like Grand Theft Auto games, along with games like Age of Empires, but for the most part I won't use it THAT much for games. If and when I upgrade to Vista, I will most likely buy another GB of ram, but not right now.

I mainly do music producing and web design, plus the typical stuff such as e-mail, Internet, instant message. Loading times just get on my nerves, and it sucks cause the Desktop I got now is only 256 Ram and a P4 2.20 ghz processor.

Looks pretty sweet for the money - being refurbished wouldn't bother me too much:thumbsup

stickyfingerz 03-10-2007 11:05 AM

I personally wouldnt touch anything from Tigerdirect go look on NewEgg.com

Phil LoadedCash 03-10-2007 01:31 PM

Allright. I went to NewEgg, and I looked around, one caught my eye,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883103049

So now it comes down to that one and,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=2&NoMapp=0

The NewEgg one has Vista Business, is there a huge difference between Business and Home Premium? I check out the chart, and it looks like you don't get Media Center with Business but does it really matter?

I'm leaveing this up to you guys, let me know what you think of the 2 systems and which one you would get.

Thanks

for 3 bills more, you can go to walmart, and grab a NEW one from HP. I would not buy a rebuilt. There is a REASON it was rebuilt, and they will sell them even though they know it was a temp fix.

At our Walmart they only got 512 MB ram and they cost like 600 bucks? I'll check out Walmart.com though.

Thanks for your input. Other than the rebuilt one, what do you think about the NewEgg one?

I wouldn't buy anything with Vista and less then 2 gigs of ram. And they're both using shity on board graphics that will likely struggle even for GTA games.

Yeah, I know Vista isn't that great because it's new, so I understand that.

But like I said I'm low on Cash, taxes coming up, So I'm gonna have to settle with 1 GB Ram. I can upgrade later, and for the graphics.. idk. No comment.

Thanks for the input.

Well theres your problem. I've been using this 2 ghz machine for years and haven't had any problems with it until recently (my fault, mostly heat issues, and to much hardware with too weak of a power supply). But I had a gig and a half of ram in it. I have another machine that is a dual core 3 ghz but only had 256 megs of ram. And it takes forever to do anything. I should take my own advice and get more ram for that thing, I might use it for more then just email.

Like I tell all my friends when they are buying systems. A nice fast processor is nice, but its better to get a 2.2 system with a gigs of ram, then a super spendy top of the line processor with 256 megs of ram.

But thats just me...

(edit) oh and with that tiger system, if you wanted a nice video card to go in those nifty pci-x slots, the 300 watt power supply isn't going to cut it.

Believe me, I know exactly what you mean.

However, I got a Dell. Im not sure if you own one, but its hard to buy pieces for it. I was going to get 512 MB ram back in december for it, it cost 90 bucks just for ram. So, if I got 1 gig ram Im guessing at leat $150. Cheaper than a New computer, but the dell doesn't have a DVD Drive either, which almost all new games run on. Also, only 40 Gig hard drive, with 18.7 gigs left, Enough, but still.

Understand what I'm saying? I can upgrade ram, but is it worth it when I can get a new PC with new features and better specs?

Buy the TigerDirect machine.I was a reseller for Systemax for years. Systemax is the parent company of TigerDirect and I assure you that they are great folks to deal with.

Re: REFURBISHED

People have an inaccurate idea of what refurbished means. It does not mean that they just took a broken computer and stuck it in a box. In many cases units get tagged as refurbished because someone ordered it then sent it back and it never had a problem in the first place. Even if it had a bad HDD or video card, the defective part would have been replaced anyway.

Go with the TigerDirect machine. And use my affiliate link. lol

If I do go with it, how does the Vista upgrade work?

Phil LoadedCash 03-10-2007 03:42 PM

My guess is that you get a cert... but my advice would be to wait at least 6 months before you upgrade to ANY new OS. Microsoft is known for allowing consumers to beta test.

stickyfingerz 03-10-2007 06:18 PM

I find this hysterical. Apparently Tiger direct bought this domain out at some point. I remember what this domain used to be lol

Also 128 MB graphics.. that isnt good.. is it? i thought 256-512 was average?

lorine 03-11-2007 03:45 AM

256 is average in the present. It`s not such a good comp if you ask me,only 160Gb Hard Drive, poor video board, only the CPU is pretty good, but thats about it...

The specs on the processor are totally contradictory Core 2 VS Pentium D are 2 different things. And there’s NO FUCKING Way it’s a QuadCore at 399
