I want to spy on my apt when im gone
 

I wanted to set up some kind of webcam setup in my place so I can tune in over the web and check out to see if my place is burning down or not.

me and my gf have 2 pets that we want to keep an eye on when we are not around, such as if we leave for the weekend or something. so i bought a shitty webcam at frys and seems to work ok as a camera.

I have this old server i was going to set up and send the video feeds thru it, but have no clue what im done and the people that work at frys dont either (even tho they say the do).

So, should i just buy some video cameras and a video in pc card or just like 3 webcams, and know any software to use to be able to view multiple feeds at once?

I use a dlink network camera. Works pretty good. There are better ones but this one doesn't cost too much. You can set it to send you an email with a picture once it detects movement.

No good in the dark though. You can also move it around through the internet and you have full sound as well.

It is a bit pricey, but I don't think it's too bad when you factor in what you are getting.... a colour security camera with full sound you can monitor and move around from anywhere in the world that is basically plug and play. I love the thing and might buy another one for my garage. Lots of thieves in my area.

I also only paid about $500 Canadian, so I think you can probably pick it up for less in the US.

Looks like you can find it as low as $394.
