it looks like it might be something mostly in wet food, i checked all of the nutro options for my pets because i feed them nutro dry food and it was all canned or pouches of wet food. thanks for linking, i read about this last night but didn't get the lot numbers. :thumbsup

DonkeyPunchProductions 03-17-2007 10:54 AM

nice mines not on the list. thanks for the heads up...

PornAddict 03-17-2007 11:57 AM

Thanks for the heads up. I mainly have been feeding our puppy the nutromax dry food but just recently bought the wet food to mix in. As it turns out, we had one of the recalled items. So, this post came just in time for us. Thank you very much.

Why would anyone feed their pets generic brand crap food? Way to want the best for them!

Galina Los 03-17-2007 12:36 PM

I'm feed my dog Chappi - he likes it!

Furious_Male 03-17-2007 12:39 PM

Read about that this morning. Second time this has happened in recent memory. The last time with that Diamond dog food recall my buddy lost a gorgeous greate dane to the bad food.

Twisted Dave 03-17-2007 12:42 PM

We feed our cats with this kick ass Swedish stuff. It's basically top quality, very high meat content. Dry food. Etc. Our cats love it. We were on wet foods for them, but we looked into it, and the meat contents of the top brand stuff is usually less than 1%. The big name brands make so much money off of creating crap.

It makes me so angry!

CDSmith 03-17-2007 12:46 PM

My pooch is safe, dry premium only.

Good post though, bump!

I've never thought of Nutro as "generic brand crap food". My 4 dogs and 1 cat have been eating it (dry, thankfully) for years. 2 14 year olds (one's the cat), an 11 year old, 2.5 year old and 1 year old. All dogs doing better than most pugs he's seen per my vet. I hate to mess with proven success but now I'm beginning to wonder.....

JaneB 03-17-2007 01:14 PM

I feed my dogs Purina One. They just love that one with lamb and rice. They also like Moist and Meaty. I have not tried the pet foods listed.

Spunky 03-17-2007 01:35 PM

I only feed Oscar dry food..she likes it

baddog 03-17-2007 01:39 PM

I don't think I ever heard of any of those brands

Cam94 03-17-2007 01:42 PM

Not sure about wet food but i know dry dog/cat food is made with dead animals and unsold grocery store meat. Alot of towns don't have burn ovens to burn the animals when nobody wants them. They have the companies pick up the dead animals. They are put in big vats and are boiled down.

the smell you smell when you open up a bag of dog food is the fat grease from the vat.

If you love your pet you will not feed them any kind of packaged food. make their food yourself natural. you will notice a big difference in the way they act and the way they look.

Rubbish. Read the nutritional values on the packets. And don't buy from Pedigree Pet Foods for a start! :P

You do realize that the majority of 'generic brand crap food' is produced by the same people who make the 'expensive brand name food', right?

BVF 03-17-2007 02:39 PM

nothing but cheap dry catfood for my cat.

Yep I have to agree with you this time. The same for grocery stores that have their own food lines. It is usually big companies that make the items for the stores.

True!!!I was feeding my dog with dry food, and all he got was bad stomach and bacteria.I started making rice&chicken, rice&fish, lots of vegetables and stuff+vitamins and minerals, and he is great now!Best looking fur ever.Dry food for most of the dogs causes vomiting and fur loss, diffrent stomach problems etc...On the package you can read all the vitamins containing, but the fact that all of the dog food is made of low percent healthy meat...really no point to waste money and risk the health of the dog/cat.

some of that stuff on that list is the good shit, pet store only prands.

I feed my cat 25. Nutro Max :(

He's eating it right now. Oh well time to switch it.

Ssv 03-17-2007 03:36 PM

well, you may consider this drastic, but they must get used to eating veggies, so try not to give them food for a half a day or so, and then give them nice boiled chicken with carrots maybe, or something...I've read that you can cook almost everything exept onion and garlic...so here you can read the list of bad foods for dogs(since i don't have a cat, you have to look it up)
http://mooreshaven.com/pets/dogs/saf...foodslist.html

and remember no spices and no salt! And use supplements

May be the case with some but certainly not all, for example the brand I feed my cat uses certified organically grown chicken.

The reason that most dogs ignore veggies is because they can't digest them. Dogs lack most of the primary enzymes in their saliva that would normally start the breaking down process. Furthermore they have much shorter intestines than we do, which further inhibits them from being able to digest vegetables.
