My review on American Cannibal and KB.

I met a non-industry friend of mine (and his friends) at the Beverly Hills Fine Arts Theatre at about 8pm. He, as are his friends, are movie buffs. They can pull movie quotes from their pockets for about any occasion. They are also local filmmakers that enter all kinds of film festivals, so they really jumped at the opportunity to attend the movie.

I am a movie snob. I am very particular about movies that I see. I can?t stand action movies less plotlines. I find most comedies to be hideous attempts at old slapstick style formats or rip-offs of the 80s.

We began talking about recent movies. I told them I hadn?t seen a good movie in a long time. I told them that movies like Little Miss Sunshine only seem good to people because recently, there hasn?t been much too choose from. While they didn?t agree completely, they saw my point.

I have to say that American Cannibal did not only surprise me, but I was actually impressed. The movie is fantastic. I honestly laughed a few times in that movie so hard that I had tears in my eyes. It is a total shame that a movie such as this isn?t in more theatres because comparatively: this is much better stuff.

The movie is original, very witty, and extremely funny and has a very well thought out and unique twist. I know a lot of people don?t like KB. But he is great in this. He really isn?t trying too hard in the slightest; in fact, he is self-deprecating.

He really nailed it in this. My friends laughed throughout the movie and they have never met KB, nor have they ever been to an industry function.

Whatever KB?s reputation is. Whatever his former job history is. Whatever his successes and failures are. That all went out the window last night as far as I am concerned because last night, he was really great. It was refreshing to see someone (something) really put together a unique, passionate project. Even if I hadn?t liked the movie (which I obviously did) I still would have respected the fact that it tried to be original.

I haven?t always been a KB supporter. I haven?t always thought his ?marketing? was an effective way of doing things. I haven?t always agreed with things he has said. But I have to call this one like I see it. Even if the movie never makes a dime, he accomplished something in my book.

Congrats KB, I hope more people get out and see this. Because it is very worth it. You probably have one of the better movies in theatres today, I hope people take a chance on yours.

I have to agree, I loved it and I wasn't expecting anything nearly that good. Definitly some memorable scenes and quotes from that movie that I'll be laughing about for awhile.

RevSand 03-17-2007 11:54 AM

Well said cory and I agree with a lot of your points... The movie was VERY entertaining and KB was great in it.

tASSy 03-17-2007 11:54 AM

well said. :thumbsup it's too bad this is all a teaser for those of us who aren't near a city showing the movie.

D-Money 03-17-2007 11:56 AM

Excellent review!

Mutt 03-17-2007 11:57 AM

KB nailed it? you make it sound like he was acting - it's a documentary, he was being himself.

he didn't direct the film either - he is an integral part of the story and events told but not the director or producer from anything I've read.

No man. You are wrong.

Please see it. He nailed it.

I can't say anything more than that.

MikeHawk 03-17-2007 11:59 AM

I have to say it was most enjoyable and super funny...

Great study on the "human spirit"

Had some very hard belly laughs through the whole movie....

Congrats on an awsome movie...nice Job!

Mutt, the movie is a little smarter than what the trailer and marketing makes it out to be.

And KB is a huge part of that.

I am not close to KB. I am just being fair, I am calling it like I see it.

baddog 03-17-2007 12:02 PM

As I stated in the thread I started about it, I will see it again. I really enjoyed it.

Got to agree..."he nailed it".... i was with 3 of my buddies from the beach, they dont know him, all agreed he was the "highlight" of the movie....

Nice job KB.....

To tell you the truth his acting or being himself...John Wayne did a nice job of that for many many years...and made some nice money in the process...lol

To fully understand the movie, you need to see it...i went open minded...i am a fan!

That's the truth.. KBs role in it is something you just have to see to fully understand and appreciate...

I don't think you get a more objective judge in most things than Corey IMHO.

I was gonna see it soon anyway, now I'll think I'll make it sooner.

Thanks,

If I didn't like it, I would have just said nothing.

No motivation to say otherwise.

People just don't want to give credit where credit is due. That is all.

Nice review Cory, I can't wait to see it!

donkevlar 03-17-2007 02:44 PM

What the fuck is KB?

WonderWoman 03-17-2007 03:10 PM

I thought the movie was excellent and Corys quote said by The Daily Show chick was priceless.

Great job KB!

Mutt 03-17-2007 03:18 PM

i am sure KB is great in it - he's a huckster and a character. but i still don't understand how he can nail being himself - that's him. i'm sure when he knew the camera was on he played it up more.

anyway lemme know when it shows up on a torrent. i'm sure it's entertaining. i love documentaries.

Adultnet 03-17-2007 03:30 PM

good read :)

I would be ruining the movie if I explained it to you. Once you see it, you will be judging KB for his performance. Good or bad, you will judge him.

chaze 03-17-2007 03:56 PM

Wow I think your calling is movie reviews. :1orglaugh

C H R I S 03-17-2007 04:02 PM

word....

TheAmericanCannibal 03-18-2007 01:36 AM

WOW!!!

That's all I can say is WOW!!
Cory if your blog is half as good as this movie review is- I want in!
I can honestly say that you "got" the movie as did many others.
I find it hilarious when people ask how coul nail a part playing ME.

Then again, it was a MOVIE- and while everything you saw in the film really happened...it doesn't necessarily make it REAL.

AYE there's the rub-

This movie is much more than a piece of celluloid, it's truly a social experiment that goes beyond anything you can even try to wrap all of your heads around.....
It's still evolving
But there can be no sequel. I will be signing a book deal soon and then people will get the ENTIRE story about myself as well as what really happened on the Islan of British New Gambia
:pimp

TheAmericanCannibal 03-18-2007 01:44 AM

PS if you believe that reality TV, Artie Fufkin, the tooth fairy, and everything u saw last night in that movie is 100% real.....

:1orglaugh

That's all I can really say about this - PLEASE TELL ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THIS MOVIE!!!

Small indie films like these never get the $$$ for promotion and usually fizzle out of the theatres real quick!

If you have friends that live in New York City, Austin, TX, Chicago, Ill or in Irvine CA especially-

Please tell them to go see "KB....Being KB"

Like that J$tyles?
:-))

TheAmericanCannibal 03-18-2007 01:53 AM

Kurt Loder felt the same way as you did Cory!

He also gives away the entire movie...
Of course he left out a few comments I might have made.
