Webmasters/Hosts help!

Ill explain my situation it is a little tricky..
I registered my domain through www.Xanthion.com the host I was using. Along with the domain i received hosting. Now as im starting to get more traffic i need more bw.

Heres the problem, my host is not responding to me and they have not been responding to me over a month now. I thought about changing hosts but I cant! They have my domain. Anyone have any suggestions? I emailed and called MANY times and no answer. I really have no idea what to do!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I never checked these offers out before. When they "give" you the domain, they don't put it in your name?

Fap 03-19-2007 12:24 AM

Nope it is in the hosts name on the whois..

Fap 03-19-2007 12:26 AM

It is a reseller account i registered, i have access to WHM (WebHost Manager) and Cpanel for the actual site

Well, that certainly sucks for you. I would chalk it up to experience and start over. Can't be that old of a site. Delete everything and redirect to your new site until it expires.

There is really no way to recover? This sucks..

What if i contacted the people they buy space from? I DOUBT they have their own servers

teksonline 03-19-2007 02:22 AM

Usually it starts out in hosts name to prevent chargebacks, then they will transfer it to you or create your own domain access subaccount. Use the proper support method to contact your host, if you're simply emailing support@ or whatever thats probably not the proper method, I am sure they have a billing manager with ticket support.

V_RocKs 03-19-2007 02:43 AM

Your host has your domain?

Then they own it, nothing you can do.

That's why I tell people never register with the same host you use even though we offer domain registration.

Fap 03-19-2007 06:04 PM

There has to be something i can do.. i was hoping someone on here knew how

IllTestYourGirls 03-19-2007 06:18 PM

here you go...loop hole found this at the bottom of the TOS

Users who partake in the free domain registration promotional offer and cancel services within 1 year of their signup date are required to pay Xanthion.com $12.95 for the domain registration fee.

Fap 03-19-2007 06:27 PM

Hmm good find but they still wont contact me..

spacedog 03-19-2007 06:34 PM

1 buy new domain
2 get another host
3 set up domain on new host
4 copy your site & ftp it to new domain on new host
5 delete entire site on old host
6 replace index with 301 redirect via php
7 let account at old host expire

I know.. but the whole point is i would like to keep the domain..

Think i can do anything by filling a complaint through ICANN?

webair 03-19-2007 08:43 PM

have you tried calling them? If i were you I would exhaust every avenue in attempts to contact them. IF that does not work get in touch with the registrar (if the host is not a registrar) If the host is the registrar you can take it to another level. Contact me if you need further assistance.

Ohh and start registering your domains through webair.com and you won't have these issues =))

Fap 03-19-2007 09:02 PM

I have tried them at all hours of the day! No one answers! and yes the host is the registrar.
Update after doing a little research i found:
http://www.gotorion.com/vb/showthread.php?t=12333

also i noticed he was posting on all these forums shamelessly promoting himself..

potter 03-19-2007 09:44 PM

Mr.Nice Guy 03-20-2007 05:15 PM

I reported him for invalid whois info to godaddy, and now the contact info for 'Gotorion.com' should be accurate for you to contact

Keep on topic please.

Yeah, well known in alot of webmaster groups. GFY moves way too fast for everyone to notice. But it's been brought up here and there is plenty of info on it around here. I'm pretty sure a quick search of his nick would bring up threads on it. Google prob even has some good ones stashed away. :warning :warning

So pay for hosting for a year, then when it is yours, move it. 301 until then,

webair 03-20-2007 08:54 PM

he obviously doesn't have access =)) whomever he hosts with has it in their name...I told ya with you do bud...connect the dots =)

BTW I responded to your email earlier

webair 03-21-2007 08:36 AM

Banthis let us know what happened when you sort it out curious to knwo how this panned out for you

L0stMind 03-21-2007 08:40 AM

Just buy a new domain. Throw up a redirect on your current domain in WHM and funnel traffic over.

Chalk it up as a loss or in a year when you technically own the domain approach your host about it.

A domain costs what? $10-15? Big deal - that's a cheap lesson to learn. Good luck.
