Melbourne motorists flee tunnel fireball - 3 Dead

So sad. This tunnell is a ten minute drive from me.

I was wondering why the city came to a standstill this afternoon.

Holy shit - what a mess. We don't think about it often but these tunnels and ever regular freeways are dangerous.

Gary_TLX 03-23-2007 09:18 AM

That1s one of those situations I never want to experience...

LiveDose 03-23-2007 09:21 AM

That's nuts.

Firehorse 03-23-2007 09:22 AM

I hope they R.I.P.

Darkhorse 03-23-2007 09:37 AM

Ya I seen that on the news last night pretty bad.

Somewhere in Hollywood right now, there's someone incorporating this into their next movie. :/

I've always felt uneasy going through that tunnel; all you hear is the roar of engine brakes echoing off the walls.

My wife hates it and tells me to go faster so we can exit it more quickly.

Tunnels aren't the only place that truckies tailgate you, I snapped this over my shoulder a couple of months ago on the Western Ring Road at 100km/hr...

Yep...

I just don't understand why truckies think that it's safe to sit a multi-tonne vehicle a single car length from your rear bumper. If I had to brake suddenly (or impacted something) then my boot, and probably my daughter, would be crushed before the truckie's brain even registered that my brake lights were on.

If someone is sitting too close I usually tap the brake pedal briefly and that gets the message across... there's little point doing it to truckies though, they just ignore you.

Damn, that's scary. Only thing we have around here like that is Lower Wacker Drive, but that's always got a 4th side open to the river, for the most part.

Gerco 03-24-2007 08:36 AM

what we need is a no truck law during rush hour. 7-9am 4-6pm no trucks allowed on interstates in any city period.

So what happens if there's congestion and the truck is still stuck on the freeway at 4:01pm?

spacedog 03-24-2007 09:45 AM

Shit like that among other things are reason why I avoid the tunnels in Boston, & NYC

"Daylight" (1996)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116040/

It's a disaster type movie that starts with a stolen car colliding with a truck of toxic waste...... inside a tunnel.

rowan 03-24-2007 10:58 AM

I just ordered the Daylight DVD, it's on special :Graucho

Star 69 03-24-2007 12:27 PM

That's sad.
