SCAM: My Health Insurance stoped paying for a Chronic Med.
 

As of April 2007 my Health Insurance will stop paying for Valtrex.

A medication I will have to use for the rest of my life.

Instead they are saying I must use Acycolvir.... A generic of a TOTALLY different drug..

I have no issue with generics, however this is not the generic of Valtrex the medication I use, rather a generic for a totally different older drug Ive never used..

What bullshit.

Has anyone else used this other drug Acyclovir?? How does it compare to Valtrex?

acyclovir is generic for Zovirax

I told my doctor that if Im put on this new drug and it makes me feel tired, etc, I wont take it.

And if insurance wont pay for Valtrex then fuck it I wont take anything..

Its not my problem..

Why not call your health insurance company and complain about your outbreak to them rather than the people at GFY? This topic is like the morons that come here asking for legal advice, dating advice, fucking what car they should buy, etc.

You will get answers here, but in all honesty nobody probably cares, nor should you. Consult the people that can say YES or NO. Not the people that will respond with answers such as:

Good luck finding another insurance company with an affordable plan when you're sick. They are only interested in insuring perfectly healthy people, the younger the better too.

Try finding a new insurance company.. which wont be easy btw.

I take Protonix (acid reflux for those wondering what ailment I have) and my insurance company wanted to stop paying for it to put me on the generic of Prilosec.

I gave it a shot for 1 month and it didn't work as well so I contacted my insurance company and they sent out an "over-ride" form that I took to my doctor. He signed off on it saying that the generic didn't work as well for me and that they needed to put me back on the medication he prescribed.

Now I have my Protonix again :)

Just tell the doctor to put 'dispense as written' or whatever the technical terminology is saying they can't subsititute, the insurance should cover it then.

I'm picturing it getting much harder for you to get laid at conventions in the near future.

Wrong... It can also prescribed if you've had an organ transplant (or have HIV or anything that suppresses your immune system) in order to prevent a particular type of infection that can be life threatening.

And also for "shingles"..

Ummmm..... it's prescribed to HIV folk to prevent them from getting huge awful herpes outbreaks, and to organ transplat patients for the prevention of CMV disease. CMV and shingles are both a type of herpes.
