I've had it..after 25 years, I'm done with Rap.
At least for now..until Dre' comes out with something again.
I got so pissed off last night, fell asleep on the couch, woke up to a Rap video, and I am now tired of it. It prompted me to write about it here, on my blog this morning. What the fuck happened to Rap? The only thing it's missing is "Black Face". I'm not claiming this shit as part of MY culture.:2 cents:  |
Why don't you rap your lips around deez nutz.. LMAO "I need love" With a location like boogie wonderland you should just rap a big black cock around your neck and jump.
|
NOoooooo can't be done with rap!!! Rap rocks!!!

You never saw Chuck D, or Run DMC acting like this. It's a slap in the face of the pioneers who have struggled hard to cross over and let their voice and passion be heard and accepted in mainstream music. It's just my opinion, but I have been listening since the beginning, and i am now bored, and pissed off that is has gotten this far out of control. |
nas said it best - hip hop is dead
|

I saw Chuck D give a lecture at Harvard University in 1990. The lecture hall was packed to overflowing and people were taking notes. :thumbsup
Now, today, "It's cool to be a stupid moron" that can't read and write or do anything else except "bling out" in the 'hood or whatever shit. It's like a descent back into the dark ages and it's very frightening. I'm glad more people are rejecting the current "rap" culture. |
yo i skimmed through what you wrote, and in my opinion you seem to be talking mainly about the upsurgence of 'gangsta' rap, and the fact that alot of it is fake ghetto bullshit, but to say your gonna give up on rap because of that is fucking pointless, i mean their is alot of other rap out their, ppl new and old who dont try to be gangsta ppl who just keep it real to themselves, i mean take a look at jay-z kindome come, nas-hip hop is dead, termanology, fort minor, mos def, common, kanye, talib kweli, lupe fiasco, dilated ppls, the Wu Tang Clan, Jin, Redman. none of them are trying to tie into this gangsta bullshit that is bought up by white suburban ghetto wannabe kids.
Dont get me wrong i love gansta rap i love rap of all forms, but in my eyes it goes like this, as rap becomes more popular and more mainstream you will get alot more ppl coming out and just doing what sells simply because their is money in it, that is what has happened with every music genre that was ever popular in the mainstream. All that means to me is that you have to look a little harder to find the hip hop that is still inspirational. And if you are looking for some good gangsta rap, then here are a couple things to check out ice cubes latest album cos he is the original gangsta and he definately keeps it street Bishop Lamint, Dre's latest prodigy also check up british hip hop like dizzee rascal, sway, baby blue, kano, lethal bizzle, skinnyman. with uk hip hop is relatively new and isnt really very mainstream so as a result uk rappers havent bought into the commercialism yet and are thus still staying true to themselves and their art T |
Good point, and I even listed 2 Live Crew in with some of my favorites, and nobody was nastier than them, but they also had one of the most important freedom of speech cases before the Supreme Court since Larry Flint, and most of the artists that you have named I like, but consider them "old school" because they carry on the positive tradition that Rap used to have.
Yes there is a difference, but it seems the only thing Record Company Execs want to promote heavily is the negative crap, and I think the artist that participate in this minstrel show are doing the industry and the culture as a whole a dis service, not to mention...they are selling themselves out for quick cash, and it's disgusting. (yeah, I said minstrel show!) |
get that new joint from the dogg pound, 'dogg chit'.... its bangin!

i'm almost a 100% sure there is a rap song out there you once liked/like a song you listen to only when you are alone. :winkwink: |

But i agree as an avid hhip hop fanm it does make me a little ashamed when i listen to alot of the rap that comes out now, not because they are all gangsta wannabes, but because they are not actually trying to get any sort of message out their, i mean in the days of NWA Tupac, Public Enenmy their gangsta rap was about educating the masses on what goes on in the ghetto, today with acts like T.I, 50 Cent G-unit, its more about making fast cash quick, and that is what makes me sick. but to me it just means that i have to spend a little more time seperating the wheat from the chaff |

You can't even get a whole album anymore out of most of these new "Artists". It's all "get on the radio, and buy an Escalade". I have seen this discussion here many times and I tried to stay positive, but if I am getting fed up (and I used to travel to see a show) there needs to be a redirection back to it's roots to even think about getting any respect in mainstream culture again. |
agreed, modern rap does indeed suck. i still listen to some old tracks but nothing made in the last couple years i don't think, from where rap used to be to now end up w/ this homogenized garbage is pretty sad really..
|
I stopped listening to new hip hop 15 years ago, but there's got to be plenty of good new shit out there, if you look for it.
