If you buy hardlinks using avn do you know if you benefit from the host sites PR?

Very interesting conversation. Let me tell you my opinion. The most important ( as you know well) is the quality of link( relevancy-number of other links on the page - anchor text etc). A good quality PR5 gives you more "juice" than a bad quality PR5. None knows how exactlly works the algorithm of calculations for every SE.

Alot of people think they know though :)
