Its a pretty ugly ugly feeling to have you car give out in traffic

My car just gave out in the middle of a busy intersection.....almost got rear ended pretty bad:Oh crap. Any here had a smiliar experience?

LiveDose 04-05-2007 09:55 AM

One of our vehicles is a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the bitch stalls out a couple times a week. It's a 2007. I can't wait to dump it.

Just smile at everyone and flip them the bird. Works everytime.

Yeah, last year my alternator gave out in the middle of traffic. After everyone honked and zipped passed me. A guy and his wife stopped and helped me push it to the side. Its my first car and I'm new to driving so I was completely clueless as what I was suppose to do. Lucky $100 fixed the problem and its running fine now. It's a 1997 Ford... lol I just hope it makes it until my birthday this year. As I plan to lease/finance a new car for my 23rd b-day.

Anywho, yes it sucks badly and you stay fearful for awhile afterwards, lol, at least I did.

wdsguy 04-05-2007 10:03 AM

damn thats gotto suck.

MikeVega 04-05-2007 10:06 AM

I haven't had that happen in years but I've had cars do that. It's the worst feeling driving a car like that and just hoping it will make it to where your going

About 15 years ago, Ford brought back the T-Bird.

I bought one. Big mistake.

Driving down the 91 freeway in Orange County California, hot day, windows rolled up, Air conditioning on. The compressor for the AC explodes. Instantly the car fills with Freon. My air supply was immediately gone, I couldn't even take a breath. I had to roll down the window and stick my head out of the car while trying to make it to the shoulder.

My wife had that happen a few years ago. Brand new Honda accord. On the expressway at 60mph, and the fucker just shut down.

LOL...I feel your pain man. I had an Escort GT 1990 that was a beater. Gave out one time at a busy light. Everyone was beeping their horns and yelling as they pulled around me. I felt so small I just wanted to leave the thing their. Some how I pushed it out of the way.:(

I've never been in an accident in my life <knocks on wood>, but once while driving on the freeway at 65mph (okay, 80mph), my universal joint snapped and the drive shaft dropped down and lifted my front wheels off the ground (since it was a front-wheel drive car, I effectively lost control).

As the driveshaft dug into the road, it caused the car to slowly spin 360 degrees, while still traveling forward at high speed.

All I could do was hit the rear brakes and hold on until the car stopped. It was a surreal feeling to be facing the cars coming at me at high speed, all slamming on their breaks. Lots of screeching and burned rubber, but amazingly, there were no collisions.

The Highway Patrol officer told me I was lucky, since he had seen similar situations with the drive shaft falling out at high speed like that which had pitched cars upside down...

Its a worse feeling when your car just up and won't turn at a slow speed due to ice :(

I have a rear wheel drive car which I noticed is lacking something pretty basic, and cheap: a couple of "U" frames around each end of the driveshaft (not normally touching) to catch it if one of the universal joints fails.

I had a water pump fail when I was waiting at the lights. The engine didn't stop, but the car made a horrible racket and I was debating whether to stop it, or wait for the lights to change... luckily they changed pretty quickly so I was able to pull over.

The same car broke a timing belt not too long after that, while I was rolling. :1orglaugh Surprisingly there was no engine damage... pity, because it was a lemon.

MandyBlake 04-05-2007 11:25 AM

ugh i couldn't imagine that happening in atlanta traffic.

J. Falcon 04-05-2007 11:35 AM

Good to hear your ok at least. Have your car checked.

Evil E 04-05-2007 11:40 AM

The only time my car gave out on public road is when I ran into a telephone post at full speed.

Must suck in traffic.

Getting a tow is pretty expensive. I hate it.

Wow that must suck. I don't think i'll ever buy a Jeep. I'm sold on asian cars. Mine is a 20 year old car that I paid a few bucks. It only stalled once in 6 months(had zero problems during harsh cold winter of Canadia) and never did since I replaced the piece.

One time the chain on my bike broke, that's about as close as I can get for ya.
