It's ok, because he's a black guy making fun of white people with racial slurs.

So it doesn't count.

_Richard_ 04-11-2007 04:21 PM

ahh.. the mud slinging begins!

I have never owned a slave. My grandfather never owned a slave.
Over history, slaves have come in all shapes and sizes, and colors.

We have slaves today too.. we call them migrant workers.

They could have a song somewhere called "kill the farmer" for all I know. I dont know spanish :)

As unpopular as I will be for saying it, the black community needs to quit using past offenses as a reason to segregate themselves, propagate violence both amongst blacks and against whites, and take responsibility for what is going on today.

History is history and yes it sucked. But people have a choice to dwell on it or over come and move on.

Most rational people come to that same conclusion, even people of all races. Bill Cosby has been saying for years the time has come to move forward and make self accountability the primary motivation for black people. Its a shame he is being outcast.

Those kinds of comments are heart warming (what Bill Cosby said) and they don?t do much to stir racial tensions, which is exactly why the media essentially ignored him when he said it. Logic doesn?t sell to the masses ? hysteria does. And that is sad? a great man like Cosby whose voice essentially goes unheard and his message will go unheeded.

Failures always try to find something to blame their failure on other than themselves.

Like the saying goes, a man who falls is only a failure when he says he was pushed.

People who succeed, aren't bothered by such stupid bullshit.

Scootermuze 04-11-2007 07:10 PM

He uses his references in the context of jokes with no reference to specific people...

As for the current controversy, the words used were directed toward specific individuals.. and thinking it was funny when he said it...

But.. that's just my take on it..

thebestdamnsexshow 04-11-2007 08:42 PM

well it is comedy.. different situation.

Phoenix 04-11-2007 08:54 PM

lets hit comedy clubs around the nation all at the same time..bring a camera and as soon as any black comic makes a racial joke...one person needs to start screaming racist...racist...and videotape it..then we make a funny site with it all:)

Goodings Media 04-11-2007 09:07 PM

yeah hes a legend! lol its cool that this kinda stuff is now in comedy, we can laugh about it and move on :)

Fuck it, you know what, I'm tired of all that fucking bullshit about "you enslaved us" blah blah blah. Ok, all you uneducated fucks shut up!

How many people realize that it wasn't white people starting the "enslaving" of black people? Oh what race was it? BLACK PEOPLE! Who sold the slaves to the white people? Black people.

Africans SOLD their own. Yet white people get blamed for it all. So all in all, I guess the moral of this story is that they should start saying "Kill the blacks too" in their lyrics.

Ok, yea I'm tired, I'm going to bed.

rotowa85 04-12-2007 03:12 AM

you know what im not saying its ok, but if white people had had to go through all the injustice that black people have had to go through, then maybe they would get away wityh the occasional racial slur just like black ppl do.

ynuahayt 04-12-2007 03:18 AM

So JDog, how many slaves do you currently own since you obviously think it's totally a-ok to BUY them?

"Here slave seller guy please take all my morals and ethics before I make purchase kthxbyebye."

imus was using his reference in the exact same context , the only difference is the group of people he was talking about was a smaller group..

The point is moot anyways as anyone who has wached imus before knows he wasn't even referring to black people in any sense of the imagination.. he was making a joke the same as all comedians, the only people who make it racist are the people who think the words "nappy headed" and "ho" belong to nlack people only and white people cant say black people words.. how idiotic and RACIST to think that way..

If its all about context then we need to rethink what we are afraid of.. as in CONTEXT he wasn't referring to black people.
Thats just my take on it though..

I do agree.

But, if a white man got up on stage, do you think he could get away with the same act?

:winkwink:

TSGlider 04-12-2007 10:25 AM

Listen, there's a bit of a semantic loophole in this whole argument. Black vs. White.

Black people in America define themselves as African Americans because many of them can trace their routes back to Africa. The same way an Irish American traces his routes back to Ireland.

The difference of course is that black people are summarily defined, labeled, identified as "black," pejoritively or not. African American and Black are pretty much viewed as interchangable terms defining one particular group of people.

This does not happen to anyone else. The Irish American stays Irish. the Italian American remains Italian. They are both caucasian, or white, but it does not define them. Italian and/or Irish is not synonymous with the word, white. If I say, "She's white," you're not going to immediatlely picture an Irish girl or an Italian girl or a Russian girl, or whatever.

So if you ask me, don't compare this to Chris Rock's 10-year-old Cracker bit. Compare it to slurs that really hit home for specific "white" people on the terms that they really define themselves: A lot of Italians don't like being called a Guinea or a WOP. A lot of Irishmen don't take kindly to being called a Mick. The Polish don't always like being called Polocks. Jews don't really dig being called Kikes. Call any of them a cracker...well, of course they're not going to give two shits.

Just food for thought. Personally, I think this whole Imus thing is BS to begin with. There are a lot more important things going on in the world. And if this whole issue was about "being sensitive," the most sensitive thing would have been to ignore it altogether. None of these Rutger chicks could possibly be listening to 65-year-old Imus on a regular basis. The most offensive thing was calling it to their attention in the first place, and then parading them out in front of the world on every major news channel to comment on it.

Well, in my honest opinion, Imus was trying to make a joke.
A joke, that went horribly, horribly bad.

ynuahayt, if you read my post I didn't say it was a-ok to BUY them. I just said that it wasn't white people that originally enslaved black people. It was the Africans enslaving the Africans. Read the history, educate yourself.

It isn't right and I'm all about equal rights. I just don't feel that white people should be the only people blame for enslaving blacks.
