Vegas users your forumla to make video ready

Do you use special capture settings? What do you render at?

I was rendering at 3 Mbps and the quality was okay, but the file for 640 x 480 was 160 Mb which is a bit too big given the file quality. There doesn't seem to be an option to go to 1 Mbps (which would be a nice medium).

I was hoping for around 50 Mb or so for that size file. I've seen some nice clear videos at 900 kbps or thereabouts. I've also compressed it with windows media encoder and it looked roughly the same and came out at around 45 Mb, but then some of my other videos didn't work. I'm just getting into editing so be gentle. I guess this question goes out to other Vegas users to get your videos member ready from start to finish.

You're asking a very general question. That's like me asking you what setting should I be shooting at. You'd want to know if I were shooting indoors, or outdoors, or what kind of lighting I was using, what kind of camera I had... See what I mean?

What's your final output format? What kind of site is it? Are you shooting in HD? do your members currently get 160 meg downloads? There's just a lot more to the question than "what settings do you use?" Also, and don't take this the wrong way, but some guys may have spent years perfecting their formula and techniques. Don't expect them to just hand it over. It's like asking a chef for a family recipe, some of them aren't very open about such things.

Some will give you a general ballpark, but you will still want to tweak shit for what's best for you.

Yeah I don't expect much, I've been doing a lot of playing around myself! Whatever people will hand out, I'll take!

Its for a new site, so members aren't used to anything right now. I'd like a fairly high end video product however. I'm not shooting HD its standard digital. I certainly don't mind a 160 Meg download, but don't see the quality that I am looking for in the file that was produced. It's okay mind you, but at 3 Mbps, its a bit steep for the amount of grain and I've seen a lot better for smaller files sizes. I definitely want the output to be WMV. Any suggestions now? If you don't want to give it to the world, feel free to e-mail me.
