Wanna bet on global warming? You can now.

Perfect example of the effects of hype, and people reaping the rewards.

Even the most pessimistic projections on global warming trends don't show sea levels significantly rising until 2030.

Einstein was and still is right. Light travels at a constant 186,000 miles per second in vacuum.

Einstein had nappy hair though so it completely negates that fact about light.

I love global warming, 26 celcius right now while it normally should be around 15

Wooooooot

markz08 04-14-2007 05:18 AM

wow, that's nice....

Jinx 04-14-2007 06:10 AM

Well it better hurry the hell up, I'm cold...

CheneyRumsfeld 04-14-2007 06:22 AM

anybody ever consider the fact that all this hot air about global warming is the cause of all this hot air?

D 04-14-2007 08:29 AM

I've still yet to watch Mr. Gore's flick, but I have studied this subject significantly.

Global Warming's pretty much a fact.

I think that few outside those that wear tinfoil hats while never bothering to go to the library and do their own research are debating whether or not the earth is warming. Much scientific evidence over the last 50 years backs up the assertion that it is.

The real debate is in whether or not humankind's actions are the cause of it.

And now, apparantly, the money's on how quickly it'll affect us. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Pretty much unproven you meant? lol

Dollarmansteve 04-14-2007 09:43 AM

until anyone can tell me what the weather is gonna be like in October of this year (or any day more that a couple weeks in the future), Im not buying into the hype. Anyone in the public who has something to say about global warming has ulterior motives. Al Gore is a politician. Activists have political ambition, the UN is lobbied heavily by NGOs and the UN groups who produce reports are lobbyists themselves.

Always questions people's underlying incetives, this is about MONEY - everything is about money.

Despite what the Al Gore zealots might have to say about the issue, the stance of the scientific community is that the Earth is in a period of warming in regards to geological time.

It's not about what's gonna happen next Thursday or next October... it's about what's going to happen 100 or even 1,000 years from now.

From that perspective, it's about raw science, not ulterior motives.

What people do with that information is their own choice.

I'm not trying to argue the point... just relay the state of the situation.

The internet abounds with folks that are quick to believe whatever they read or hear just because someone else says it, and they happen to like the stance for one reason or another.

Try cracking a book sometime... perhaps even read some peer-reviewed articles, and figure it out for yourself.

Randyyy 04-14-2007 02:47 PM

global warming is no joke

I don't disagree that it may be warming up, acutually I posted a thread earlier today with proof here.
What does it mean and whats causing it is the question.
Even if we knew the answer there would not be all that much we could do about it.

Peer reviewed or not it does mean a whole lot as they're all in it for the money. Trust me!

Again, I'm really not here to argue the point.

For all I know, you may be right on the peer-reviewed thing. Money makes the world go 'round.

But even if that's the case, I think the peer-reviewed system is _still_ the best thing we have going to figure out scientific truth. In the peer-reviewed community, "reputation" _is_ their money - or it's, at least, supposed to be.

Since you mentioned it: as far as what global warming means and what we can do about it, hell if I know...
I didn't go there - you did after calling me a "tool" for saying essentially what you're now 'not disagreeing' with, right? :-P

Or maybe I took it all wrong? Wouldn't be the first time.

If not that reason, though, then how am I "a tool?"

(NOTE: people that know me personally are asked to please stay out of answering this question :1orglaugh )

You're a tool because you're buying it hook, line and sinker.
Quote "Global Warming's pretty much a fact."

I said it 'may be warming up'.
It hasn't been proven. Until they can predict the weather for next week and be accurate then its just a pile crap. Means nothing.

Follow the money.

Well, those are my convictions.

I guess it comes down to a matter of faith. I believe in the peer-review scientific community - especially when it's in such overwhelming agreement on a subject - and you don't, so you think I'm a sucker.

Good enough. Can't argue faith.

digifan 04-14-2007 04:50 PM

The weather has been strange lately, that's for sure.

I'm more worried about mega-tsunamis, asteroid impacts, nuclear annihilation and the next ice age than I am about global warming and its effect on my offspring to be perfectly honest.

I guess if people think they're the cause of global warming that it is empowering to think that the course can be changed. But it all reality there's no stopping real climate change - and real climate change in geological terms means ice ages, atmosphere's with no oxygen, mass extinctions of 99.99% of all living organisms on the planet, etc.. and there ain't shit that anyone can do about that stuff.

Ok, now everyone go buy a Prius.

Ace_luffy 04-14-2007 08:38 PM

After Shock Media 04-14-2007 10:24 PM

Gak, will people stop saying global warming and stick with global climate change. Not all areas will warm up, and warming can lead to a ice age. That silly little saline balance is not some made up for money myth.

Now will one of the doubters please provide me with one damn indicator of when you will accept global climate change as more likely than not?
