anyone know where to get 19" flat screens cheap?

I need like 4 of them and they don't need to be high end (well maybe one) but the rest can be cheap. One will be used in an upright arcade machine rebuild, so it'll need to work vertically.

You must not know that flatscreens come as CRT as well now. :2 cents:

well, I have flat crts. They weigh like 80lbs each. I want lighter and cheaper especially if I'm just going to toss them in rebuilt upright video cabinets.

I've helped to build a mame cabinet before and when I used a LCD screen in it it looked like a complete piece of shit. A 19" CRT flat screen was far superior in every way minus the weight. You can get 19" CRT's cheap as fuck too, especially if you can find the ones that were leased.

All I have are 19" CRT's.. I just thought it'd be too heavy as I'm trying to lighten and compress the whole thing. I wanted to basically cut off about 18" off the back to fit it in the office better, but you're saying LCD's suck. Damn.

I sold my 19" on Craigs List for $100. Had tons of interest, probably could have went $125. With that said, I'm sure you could find all you need on CL. The guy who bought mine was setting up a video machine and needed 2 others, all CL.

It's not that they "really" suck. It's just that they don't accurately reproduce the look or feel of the old arcade machines. The whole point of building a cabinet imo is for the 'old school' feel... lcd screens just don't do it for me. Fine for puters, sucks ass for mame cabinets. The difference may not warrant a CRT over a LCD for yourself, but to me it would. If you can, I’d just check both out in or around where you plan for the machine to be, just temporarily mount the screens and see how you like each one. If LCD isn’t much of a difference for you then go for it! It’s all about personal tastes. >_<

LCD sucks for this purpose! I also think you should stick to CRT.

I have two that can be converted. I have an old Tempest and an old Tron machine. I like the Tron cabinet better since it had a blacklight right in the front and a cool controller, the Tempest doesn't have shit, but it's in much better shape.

Also these things seem to weigh a few thousand pounds. I was hoping to go LCD to lighten the load. I already gutted the Tron cabinet, but I do see your point about them being setup for the old school feel. Otherwise I could just get some games on MAME or even some playstation games have come out with like joust and shit on them.

My other concern is I'd want more controller options. The Tron cabinet and the Tempest don't really have button configurations. The Tron game is a 'fighter plane' type joystick with a spinner to the left. I like the look of that setup but it's not really practical for like a fighter type game.

I may have to rebuild the controller platform.

Seeing as how most people are saying to stay CRT, I might just use my current monitor and just go buy a replacement for myself.
