America won the war

Can the people out their who go around saying that america won ww2 please stop, because the simple fact is that the allies won the war. dont get me wron i do believe that the US had a big part to play in how it turned out.
It's correct that without Roosevelt's Lend-Lease program the brits would have been starved into submission by 1942.

It's correct that we would NEVER have been able to invade Western Europe without the millions of US Servicemen and women who came to help following Pearl Harbour, not to mention all the equpment such as landing-craft (even if Winston Churchill designed some of them, we had no material to build them!).

It's true to say that D-Day was about 50% an American invasion, but it still annoys me when americans make out that they won the war single handedly, because to me it just pisses all over the memories of the canadian, australian, french, russian and british soilders who gave up their lives to protect the world at large.

USA Helped to win WarII that could have and probably would have been lost without the USA help and leadership.

You forgot to mention China who gave more lives than all other together...

Btw, US did not pop out of nowhere to help. They were dragged and forced into it after the Japanese attack, and Germany too declared war on US.

Please get your facts straight.

China: 20,000,000 roughly
Soviet Union: 23,000,000

those are the big two for losses

And let's be honest... they came in a bit late ;)

Mind you ... so did Britain. They fucking let Hitler infiltrate and take over SO much before doing shit.

If the allies had gone in early, they'd have destroyed every ounce of Hitler's bullshit regime in minutes.

Gah.

There were different borders at that time. Only a bit of half of those were russians as mentioned above. Rest were ukrainians and so on.

Lots of history here
Russians won the war , it's fact
Americans sometimes show things as if they did it..

WhiplashDug 04-16-2007 02:02 PM

I guess its true.. America didn't win WW2 for Europe. It was the French!

The British did their part, and fought quite effectively, even though they were out-classed militarily, and at a huge industrial and technological disadvantage. If it were not that Brittan is completley surrounded by water, it may not have lasted long enough for the US to get in the War.

Anyway... TRUTH BE TOLD, if it were not for America's young men, and the Industrial efforts of its people at home, the World would not exist as it does today. Germany would have continued to ROLL through Europe and eventually breake the USSR (who lost nearly 11mil to combat and 12mil civilions oe almost 14% of its population.) China also paid a HUGE price, and was instrumental in the WAR in the Pacific (4mil military, 16million civilian).

All in all - 26 countries contributed to the Allied effort (some for both sides at different times) with the BULK of the contributions being the Brittish, the US, the Soviets and China.

As a note.. while Austrailia & Canada's contributions were small in comparison to the big 4, their military deaths were nearly half of the 212,000 military dead from the French effort... they sure put up a good fight!

I think the OP agrees with you.

But then, his point is that it could be said that the war would have been lost if not for _any_ of the allies' contribution.

Americans are, generally, just too egocentric in their world view to realize such things.

Dirty Dane 04-16-2007 02:05 PM

There were no winners if u look at how Europe got splitted and the aftermaths. But Germany lost it.

Killed the most amount of people? and Gained the most amount of land, is that the arguement?

HomerSimpson 04-16-2007 02:48 PM

wars have no winners !!!!! both sides loose !!!

the question is when are the guys that are running all those stuff going to realize that!

Vendzilla 04-16-2007 02:58 PM

I remember something about Japan surrendering to the US
http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/i...1/ac02719t.jpg
Something about two really big explosions in their country did that!

We were about the last country to get in the fight and lost alot of our soldiers helping out europe, how many US soldiers are buried there? 73,000 U.S. servicemen who gave their lives during World War II lie at rest in twelve European cemeteries!

scottybuzz 04-16-2007 03:30 PM

nobody wins in war :(
