Australians: What do you think about the rising dollar?
Personally, my threshold is 0.85 - after that I'm packing my bags and moving offshore. What's your limit?
|
Where are you headed to? It's going to crack 0.85 for sure.

I know hey it's a fucking joke. Last year I started swaping out all my sponsors to ones that bill/payout in euros, as well as only push my own paysites with marked up usd prices.
On the bright side buying content, hosting, design work and traffic with us money is a winner, just shitehouse when converting usd payments. -N |
Pissing me off royally! But it's all cyclical... just atm can't take a trick. Dollar shooting throught the roof, interest rate rises several times a year, petrol prices. I heard it may hit 0.90 before it gets better too!

im piss off
its near 75c here the highest its been in 20+ years when i started doing porn it was about 45c |
not good at all.

Definitely making a dent. The advantage is that I'm making more US dollars than I was when the Aussie Dollar was weak, so my income hasn't gone down at the end of the day. But it is frustrating to think how much more I would have been making a few years back. The good ol' days of 50 US cents per Aussie Dollar. Ah.

Imagine it- surrounded by Poms and getting 50p for every US greenback - now that's the stuff of nightmares. |
Yeah its getting bad.
Half my income is in Euros now so its not all disaster and all, but looking at a move to New Zealand for better exchange rates, much better tax, and a nicer climate. |
it makes me want to cry :( i think i will move back in with my parents :P
|
I remember the days of 48 cents...man it was sweet doubling my money everytime I went to the bank. It's not likely we'll be seeing that anytime again soon.

What surprises me is that we haven't heard much yet from the tourism industry or the miners - those guys must be bleeding big time. Here where I live the number of backpackers coming into town certainly seems to have declined. |

Like a fellow GFY'er says..... We need labor back in power to fuck up the economy and give us all a pay rise! :thumbsup |

The problem isn't so much the rising AU dollar as the dropping US dollar.
We can all thank George W for that one. From talks w/ marketting types, I was told it made the initial jumps from .54 > the .74 due to large mining and investment corps. Apparently, (the very simplified version) goes like this - mining company know they have to pay $100M for a new mine / mine project / equiment on delivery in say 2010 - so instead of waiting until 2010, when $100M then will be equiv to $150M+ in 2007 $, they take the $100M and hold it - so when the time comes to pay, their $100M will have the value of the new $100M. This practice of buying up huge amounts of AUD led to the dramatic rise. And I'm with you, I'm moving OS in a few months. |
|
All the Canadians went through this a few years ago...... and it sucked :( Like taking a 30% pay cut over a few years...
|
Until recently (when I got a big pay rise from a pay per min revshare webcam sponsor) I was in the same situation... grossing pretty much the same in $AUD each year, even though my $USD income was growing. It's frustrating to be standing still 5 years later, but at least I wasn't moving backwards.
(thinks: the benefits of that payrise could be wiped out if the dollar gets any weaker :1orglaugh ) |
its not the AUD going up, its the USD going down
|
all aussies that want to move to the US, lets buy up some land and start out own community :)

and the only way to fix it is to put that cockhead rudd in so he can fuck up our economy for us and bring us back our 50 cent dollar ... but that's going to hit our pockets in more ways than its worth. i'm all for the community in the states idea!!!! D00t, you can be security hahahahaahhahahahahahahaaa |
