If this is not civil war...

... then what is?

? 122 dead, 150 wounded in Sadriya market in central Baghdad;

? 28 dead, 44 wounded in an attack near an Iraqi Army checkpoint at one of the entrances to Sadr City, the official said;

? 11 civilians were killed and 13 others wounded when a parked car bomb detonated in central Baghdad's Karrada district. The car was parked near a hospital and a market;

? Four police officers were killed and 6 civilians wounded shortly when a suicide car bomber exploded at an Iraqi police checkpoint in southern Baghdad;

? Four people were killed and eight were wounded by a bomber targeting a police patrol near a checkpoint in Saidiya, in southwestern Baghdad. Two of those killed were police and the other two were civilians;

? Two civilians were killed and 9 others wounded when a roadside bomb detonated at a busy intersection in central Baghdad.

War against Terrorism.

Most of these attacks are indiscriminate not caring who they kill.

Agreed; they care about as much as we did when we shot 100+ cruise missiles into their country without a single one of them hitting Sadam.

Wow, I better start reading the real news.
I got some fake news story that said Clinton dropped bombs in
Afghanistan and not Iraq.
There were some strikes in the "no-fly zone" in Iraq but those didn't require presidential approval.

:helpme

I had no intention of this turning into a Splum vs directfiesta political thread.

It's pretty simple - this was not happening before the US got there, now it is. It's a Civil war.

Michaelious 04-18-2007 01:03 PM

I don't know really about the first comment, civil war is a war between tow different typs of people who belong to the same nation or geographic area. This is mostly Iraqi 'insurgents' trying cause unrest and remove an occupying force. Sounds more like an occupation to me.

directfiesta 04-18-2007 01:08 PM

During the french resistance of occupation ( WW2 ), the resistance was attacking the germans and their collaborators, not the civil population.

This is not anymore a resistance of occupation. This is a civil war between the Shiites and the Sunnis, and the Kurds could eventually join in....

You would remove the occupation forces of Iraq, and this violence would still go on, till they do resolve their differences, if that is possible.

IT IS A CIVIL WAR!

Yep. It's funny, I am an Imperialist and a proud American - but I am also informed. These people bombing are not outsiders, they are Iraqis.

jalami 04-18-2007 01:33 PM

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Michaelious 04-18-2007 01:37 PM

So if this is a civil war? What are the American soldiers? Collateral damage?

Na.. it was not happening before the US invasion - or for a while afterwards. (Prior to that Saddam ruled the roost).

There are now many groups, - including the current Iraq govt and US "residency". They all play a role in conflict - and the govt are crooked as hell and involved in killings on a scale.

There was probably a reasonable chance at avoiding this level of conflict some years back - but the plans to "rebuild Iraq" where another myth - and still few basic utilities/services etc and no law enforcement worth mentioning.

notabook 04-18-2007 02:03 PM

Of course it's a civil war lol... the only person that kept stability there was that insane mofo. Without him to curb terrorism they all came out of the woodwork and fucked up a relatively stable country. We're there with a bottle of glue trying to keep it together but that glue supply can't last forever.
