Im pretty certain if there were no guns I could manage to fairly easily kill a classroom full of people if I was determined enough just using one of the swords hanging on my walls, or in my collection. No guns to stop me. Chop Chop Chop.

donkevlar 04-18-2007 03:04 PM

1 Ninja per university classroom and you'll have no troubles.

stickyfingerz 04-18-2007 03:13 PM

I think Im inspired to add a new sword to my collection this month.

My main sword at the moment is 41" inches in overall length with a 31" inch blade. My arm reach is probably a good 30" inches with me holding the handle. So I have a good 5ft distance I can manage to "reach out and touch someone" Should I have a permit in order to own a sword?

LiveDose 04-18-2007 03:15 PM

People don't kill people. Swords kill people.

Therefore I believe they should be heavily regulated and possibly banned from the planet.

absolutely. Get rid of them. They KILL PEOPLE. If we didnt have swords and guns NO ONE WOULD KILL EACH OTHER!!

DeanDick 04-18-2007 03:52 PM

You can kill someone with your bare hands if you really wanted to. But I think it takes more balls to do that than to go trigger crazy.

I agree. We should ban hands, or severely regulate them. :disgust

evildick 04-18-2007 04:02 PM

I've got about 5 swords, all functional except for one, so I guess I am pro-sword. Although the cheap wallhanger one would still cut your head off, it just might break afterwards.

When was the last time somebody with a sword killed 32 people?

tony286 04-18-2007 04:14 PM

actually to kill 30 people with a sword in a class room with chairs would be hard to do. You could be slowed down highlander lol

Scott McD 04-18-2007 04:16 PM

Those swords in Braveheart looked pretty damn dangerous... :1orglaugh

DeanDick 04-18-2007 04:16 PM

The thing about swords is to know how to use them. Otherwise they are not much of a weapon.

VicD 04-18-2007 04:17 PM

This must be an American board looking at the poll :)
I voted option no 2

RawAlex 04-18-2007 04:18 PM

I think is everyone walked around like Chio with the sword drawn going "arr, arr" all the time, there would be little or no crime at all. It would be like Utopia, except with more pirates and parrots.

stickyfingerz 04-18-2007 05:37 PM

I've never heard of a drive by stabbing or slashing.

Thats why there is Ninjas. They dont drive by they sneak up on you and lower themselves down from a ceiling beam and stab you in your heart.

Ninjas were assassins, not warriors. You're thinking Samurai.

I have many, many swords. :)

None of that shitty mall ninja shit either..

I have one good quality sword, and 4 wall hangers. But the one wall hanger I would NOT want swung at me. Wouldnt take it to a sword fight, but it would take a HUGE chunk out of someone, and good chance nearly decapitate someone without a ton of force. Its more like a really long razor blade more than a sword. lol

Have you ever seen Thom Anderson's Kultivator? That's a sick, mean looking weapon.

I used to get the fantasy blades, but sold 95% of them & now only collect originals & military issue, etc... Had alot of Thom's work,,, he makes some mean shit

I ordered something made by Thom late last year, but the fuckers confiscated it at the border. I was unaware it was actually illegal in Canada. They classified it as a "push dagger", which is illegal up here. I also had a functional flail in the same order, made by Rittersteel, that was also confiscated. Apparently a mace is OK, but if you attach a chain between the ball and the stick it is suddenly a prohibited weapon. An expensive lesson for me. :disgust

Originally yes. After WWII though General Douglas MacArthur actually had a meeting to determine which type of swords would be allowed, and they destroyed a million or so swords after that meeting that were determined to be "weapon only" type swords. They are not technically banned there now, but basically a sword maker is only allowed to make a certain number per year, and you must get a special certificate with a reason for why you need it to even get a sword maker to be commissioned to make you one. Its pretty fucked up. Probably harder to get a sword in Japan, than it is to get a concealed carry license for in New York city. lol

TSGlider 04-19-2007 09:07 PM

Gun cuntrol will not curb any kind of violence. This incident at VT, and incidents like it, are unfortunate by-products of living in a free society. And the risk of dying in a freak accident by a lightning bolt or cancer or at the hands of a crazed, scorned lover on a suicide mission, that too is an unfortunate by-product of being alive. People die for no good fucking reason every day. That's what we get for being alive. It in the fine print when you're given a birth certificate.

This kid was a broken toy. He didn't learn it from TV. From death metal music. From too many guns. From video games or whatever silly shoot-'em-up that premiered in theaters last friday. He was crazy; he had a fucked up brain; he wanted to die, and regulations and more laws will never cure that sort of thing.

We try to convince ourselves that somehow tighter laws or more laws will protect us from the randomness of sick, senseless acts of brutality, but that's a fool's game. It doesn't work.

A gun in most people's hands isn't going to lead to a homicide. Same token, something as simple as a nail file in the wrong person's hands can create a hostage situation.

One liberal's opinion, anyway.
