I need someone to help me write an Excel page from a data base!!!
 

Anyone up for a little job?

I need to pull the info from a mysql database and write it to an excel page. That page will automatically update as the site is updated.

I had a guy who was going to do this for me but he is MIA and I needed this like yesterday. :Oh crap

What do you mean by an "excel page"?

There is a real quick and easy way to do this.

Write an html table with the data in it, save it with a file extension of .xls.

And that is really all there is to it. You can write formulas in. etc and when it is open in excel excel automaically turns it into an excel sheet.

I didn't believe it when someone showed me but it works.

Really? That's awesome. Do only the newer versions of excel utilize this feature?

I have no idea...lol. Know it works in 97 and 2000.

It came up when we were trying to get our server admin to install excel on the server so we could odbc to excel to write reports. He was very resistant, so we found a way around him.

It is a simple little trick but makes a lot of stuff easier to do once you play with it for a bit.

I haven't figured out how to do multiple page workbooks yet but the single page trick saves a lot of exporting and importing data when you need a quick little report.

I don't think it actually converts the data to an excel sheet. It keeps it in html but it allows you to navigate it and all that in excel.

If you're using PHPMyAdmin that's an easy task...

I think he wants it embedded into the site update to automatically happen. I am not sure that you can do that with phpmyadmin. Not sure though because I have only used it a time or two.

Looks like it would be easy to do with the pear excel write package with php. I'd help you out but it's looking like I'm not going to have any time today.

I've got someone looking it it now. Will let you guys know if he is not able to do it.
