Bahamas family vacation --- need info!
I'm planning for Christmas in April, and I need some help. I talked with the boys, and they agreed that a family trip to someplace cool would be okay in lieu of Christmas presents. So as long as the bottom doesn't fall out of the porn industry between now and then, that is what we will do. The Bahamas seem to be a good choice, because it is closer for us in terms of air travel. I'd rather have more money to spend once we get there, so less $$$ in transportation is good.
I'm debating between getting one of the vacation rental spots versus going to someplace like Atlantis. Were it me alone, I could plop my ass on the beach for a week and never move. But I'm going to have the manchild and munchkin in tow, who are 20 and 11. So I don't know if I did a rental what there would be for them to do. I assume that whoever you go through to get a rental can point you in the right direction, but I don't know that for sure. Anyone have experience with this? Where did you go, where did you stay... and what cool things did you find to do? |

I will tell the little one to enjoy it, because I'll lose custody of him upon returning to the States. :winkwink: |
Atlantis is amazing.... myself, and a group of friends all took our boats from Miami out there a few years ago.... it's about 130 NMs away, took about 7 hours cruising.
Fantastic place, great for families, tons of stuff to do, great service, beautiful resort.... Two BIG thumbs up for a family trip. (Having said that, we left after 1 1/2 days and took the boats north to the Abacos Islands for some more adult fun. ;) ) |
Stayed at the Atlantis a few times and they have many family/kids activities with others that will keep them pre-occupied and entertained so you can also have some alone time should you want to. I suggest the Atlantis because the Bahamas is kinda boring outside the hotels and it's really a beautiful place.

If your hitting up the Bahamas I woudl pry stay at the Atlantis or RIU which is right next door. RIU is all inclusive, but Atlantis will have more things for the kids to do.
Take some of the excursions like Swimming with Dolphis, SpeedBoat adventures etc. They are pretty fun and will give you something to do. |
A rental will probably be boring for the kids. I had this same decision to make for Aruba. I wanted to rent a villa at the main golf country club but it is away from the beach and family stuff and I feared becoming the family taxi man...
Going with a suite at Marriott... |

I'd be happy with that, but if I heard "I'm bored" once I would probably flip and kill them both. :winkwink: |
