Hurt - Reznor, Cash or Kermit?
I know its been posted, I dont care, but it ran by me again today and I found the kermit version. THAT I never seen...i found it to be pure blasphemy towards jim henson :1orglaugh :1orglaugh
Cash - https://youtube.com/watch?v=AO9dbmJ_2zU Reznor - https://youtube.com/watch?v=_y8MZd-GtN0 Kermit - https://youtube.com/watch?v=AO9dbmJ_2zU A great song by any means... Reznor created it, his version and theatrics are superb... but Cash OWNED it! Whats your thoughts? |
I like the Cash version best. Kind of makes you sad. Reznors doesn't do anything for me.
|
Reznor. Saw it live in concert. It was sick.
|
William Shatner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
|
All three sing a version but each version is a totally different song.

Reznor was there when Cash recored his cover. Reznor said he would never listen to his own version again.

lol kermit
|
Jeez, that kermit video is awesome. The blowjob near the end is kinda pushing it. Someone put a lot of work into that. :thumbsup

I disagree..take kermit out of it....the other two are both pain but they aren't the same pain...different song. Which shows the strength of them both as artists for making it their own. I seriously can not watch the video version of the Cash one and will leave the room if it comes on because it is just so powerful. |
That Kermit video is genius.

I always loved the NIN version, but the first time I heard the Cash version - it brought a tear to my eye.
I think Cash took over that song. I dont know what to day about the Kermit verzion. |
This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by The Jim Henson Company, Inc.

i think i am the only person on the planet who isn't crazy about the johnny cash version. i love johnny cash but yeah.. didn't care for his cover of hurt.

Kermit version is the best - making somebody laugh is a much harder thing to do than making somebody sad. could have done a better job with Kermit's voice though.
as for copyright infringing, it's satire, which makes it exempt - see underground cartoonist Robert Crumb's victory defending himself against Walt Disney. |
I agree. Trent Reznor's concert version was hard to watch. I do like his version, but I really felt Johnny's. I believe Johnny Cash lived it.

I personally prefer the Reznor version and not just because I'm a NIN fan... it just seems grittier, really bites deep for me. The Cash version is excellent, but it's really a different kind of song for me. |
Reznor because its his song. Thats like saying whats better? Van Gogh's Starry Night or a recreation of Starry Night that has a different color scheme. Cash's version is great and it really fucked up a lot country fans to find out that it wasn't written by him because its pretty fitting. If it wasn't for the fact that it was his last video I think people wouldn't claim to like Cash's version so much.
|
"This resonates so much more because it was filmed right before Kermit's death."
lol |
Being a little older (but a huge NIN fan) I would have to say that the Cash version gets my vote. I have seen probably 6 or 7 version done by NIN, and each one is good... but...
Cash put more emotion into it. You listen to him and you can truly feel the pain, feel the agony (most days at that point of his life, the man could barely talk, let alone sing... but Rick Ruben waited patiently for the good days and recorded some amazing songs). In the video you can see his wife, June Carter Cash. They were married for a long, long time (35 years, an eternity in the music business). When she died in May 2003, everyone knew it wasn't long. In September 2003, Johnny was gone as well. Hurt showed a once powerful man, the very rough and tough Man in Black reduced to a worn out husk, yet still full of definance, grit, and determination, even as his body was failing him. A true classic. |
I like Trent Reznor's better. I believe he would make you hurt. Plus I saw him in concert and he rocks that song so well. Johnny Cash's is good, but it will never be better then the original.
|
I like both versions but JC's version carries more feel and weight to it. Even Trent Reznor said he wrote the song but after Johnny Cash covered it, the song was now his.
I like finding good cover songs on youtube and a while back I found two pretty good covers of hurt. Chick on a piano https://youtube.com/watch?v=3q6ZUuY_ajU and a dude with a guitar https://youtube.com/watch?v=ZMvzfrns7Xg |
