How 'switched on' are your parents?
We all make our livings from knowing how to use and exploit modern technology but how 'switched on' are your parents when it comes to new technology. My parents are more or less with things whereas my grandparents have never been on the internet in their lives. Yours?
my parents (probably as old as your grandparents) have not got a clue!
My Dad is Pretty Savvy when Its comes to Computers and Technolgy in general. My Mother on the other hand Struggles to turn the thing on!
My mother knows how to play games at pogo.com. That is the extent of her technological prowess. I bought her a $1500 computer and she plays java games with it. :) I should have just bought her a fucking emachine.
Both of my parents have passed away. Neither one of them really understood computers let alone how the Internet worked before they died.
My mother has a PHD and is the one that taught me how to use a computer but yet she still manages to get just about every virus possible onto her computer.
i guess both my parents are "switched on" as you say:thumbsup

Barely. It's not pretty. I've told my mom a hundred times to quit clicking on those banners that offer free stuff if you fill out a 300 page survey.
True story 1. At first, my mom wouldn't allow the internet in the house because she watched that Sandra Bullock movie "The net". True Story 2: My 96 YO grandma saw on the news that there was a new computer virus and she went over to the computer where my brother was working and started hitting him on the head screaming for him to stop touching the computer or he'd get sick. Poor Grammy. She just doesn't understand. |
my parents both "off" specially to computers..
On my weekly visits to my mother's place, I end up showing her how to store #'s in her cell phone, program her TIVO, use her navigation system, etc. And I show her this process more than once yet it just doesn't 'sink in'.
My poor mother didn't even know about cut and paste until I saw her popping back and forth between her email and her browser typing in a URL someone sent her :1orglaugh But she sure can cook up a 6 course home cooked meal while on the phone in less than 1 hr and I have a hard time making scrambled eggs without tearing up the kitchen :1orglaugh |
Well, if my father had lived longer he'd be a whiz, since he was a computer programmer in the 60's and 70's.
My mom was never into computers very much. Home computers really came way way after my grandparents time. |
They always play around with my stuff when they come visit me
My Dad who is probably as old as your grandparents has never been on the internet, never sent a fax, never used a cd or a dvd and probably still uses a pass book at the bank. Oh I forgot to mention that he is still rocking the old school rotary phones.
My mom can't seem to figure out the "double click" phenomenon. She clicks once, and I tell her she needs to double click.
Click.........click. No, faster mom. Click..........click. No, no, you have to actually click it twice, really fast. Then she gets frustrated and doesn't want to click at all. Then that frustrates me, and she can't play Bejeweled. |
My father and step mom still have a dial phone. They pay extra to avoid touch tone.
'nuff said. |
few years back when i was in oversea, my mum made a long distance call to me. She sounded very excited on the phone and told me that someone sent her email saying she won 30 million worth of lottery. I said it's a scam! She didn't really believe me and told me dad she won that lottery....bla bla....completely ignore me....
my mother hates the internet. she thinks it's evil. my father works on computers daily but they don't have a high speed connection at home or an extra line for DSL, they're on dial-up on an island with two almost no longer teenage boys - i think that's insane. :2 cents:
They can use email (I think).
HAh I have to explaing Bandwidth in terms of electricity to my parents for them to understand what the heck I'm talking about
My parents have a computer i gave them, it's hilarious.. my mother refers to icq as "that fucking message window thingie" and doesnt think theres any sites out there other then ebay.. my dad will get on it and hunt down shit, if he thinks hes found what he's looking for he'll print the site out, then just shut the power off on the computer and go read what he printed. They have a cell phone, they mastered powering it up, as for making a call.. no way. One of these days when im over there im going to txt message it and watch them try to figure out why it's making noises.

My mom is the one who I learned to use computers from. She used to program with punch cards in college. I remember our computer crash and she reprogrammed it in dos.
My dad knows enough for his work, but I don't think he cares to learn anymore. He still runs dos and windows 3.1 on his computer, lol |
both of my parents don't know how to use computers...trying my best to teach them though...
I was impressed when I received a text message from my mother a few days after she got her first mobile (cell) phone.
My Mother In Law only knows how to answer the phone, or key in digits and make a call. If you try to show her how to use the phone book or change ring tones she gets scared and flustered. :1orglaugh |
