New PC's ... installed Vista ... erk!
 

Ok... so I got a couple of new PC's through. I'd allocated one day to install them and sort them. A whole day. No probs! I used to build PC's for a living ... what could be easier!!!!????

Holy....

shitting....

Hell.....

Ok... spec wise, both the new PC's we have are pretty shit hot ... fast as fuck, lots of space, 2GB main memory for now ... we can add up to 6GB more... for now, 2 is fine. I got a nice 22" Widescreen ... sure, it's the least quality part of the system, but it still looks awesome....

Ok ...

then ... the nightmare.

Vista.

Oh how I love it ... and loathe it. Ok... so yeah, it's actually VERY fast on this new system. I am happy with it performance wise ... but I have had a nightmare. This new system ... a system I was confident I could build and install within a few hours ... on XP I could have done it all in 3 or 4 hours.... this system is causing me headaches ... first, sharing drives, then trying to delete some old data ... asking me to do everything before I did it ... then not letting me because ... even tho I am an admin on the system, obviously I don't have admin rights .... installing Photoshop and it not working ... on one ... but fine on the other...

I'm not going to list all the problems ... but crapping hell, it's been a ride. A nasty... slow... difficult ride.

I did wanna upgrade I must admit ... but I'll be honest ... and, this is for anyone who wanted to get in touch ... most of my clients know that my system was unstable and I had to get a new one... well, the time came and my PC died. Properly. I didn't expect it entirely... but it did.

Anyways ... there you go.

I love all the people that bitch about Vista. Same people that bitch about XPs lack of security. Now they add it and they still bitch.

I'll be honest. Security is fine. Babysitting is not.

Listen ... when I'm the administrator ... and Vista then tells me I can't delete a folder that is NOT related to the system in any way (it's an old redundant folder from my last system on my second drive)... it tells me I have to be administrator... well ... wtf?

I'm sure it's got it's issues. I don't have it yet. I'm sure there is a solution to your problem. Have you checked the boards at miscrosfot and see if someone with the same problem has a solution?

Is it because it's the adult industry that you assume artists are stealing software? And do you apply that to coders and Visual Studio or whatever, and what about content resellers? Are they stealing by default too?

Dude ... I trawled ALL the forums! And yeah ... some people THINK they have solutions.

You'll find out soon man ... :P It's WAY over the top as far as security goes. You seen the Mac ad where the PC has a security guy next to him going "Mac is attempting to communicate... allow or block?" ... PC has to answer every single question ... It's TOTALLY true.

You CAN turn that shit off ... sure, but that doesn't stop the crazy privelages bullshit.

Listen ... I DO like a LOT about Vista. Hell, it's got some nice features. But it's got some faults. Some major ones.

I think a lot of the problems will be ironed out with better driver support from hardware makers, and of course, Service Packs.

Vista isn't bad. It's just got some very bad points.
