Whay Linux distro do you run for your desktop puter?
I'm thinking about trying a new distro for my desktop. I run Fedora, but I'm thinking about changing. Not interested in server OS , just desktop.

for desktop i have only ran solaris or freebsd
|
I tried (K)Ubuntu and it still doesn't have the support needed to run on my system correctly.
So I put Fedora Core 6 on instead. It runs rather nicely with Beryl, XGL and other fun little perks. |
Fedora Core 6 Works like a charm but when I get time i'll have to try some others it's a matter of taste I think.

FreeBSD all the way! (yes. i know it's not a linux flavour.)
|
I've had CentOS ( free version of redhat enterprise ) on my laptop since December. I've only booted into windows twice since then ( couple of times in January ).
Only issue I had was getting my wireless card to work; the solution was a bitch to find and implement, but other than that, I'm pretty happy with it. Even designing my new site using the GIMP. |

Depends on how well you know linux. I have tried many, but stuck with ubuntu.

I'm running Ubuntu right now, pretty happy with it... Always liked Debian based distros over Redhat based ones. I ran FreeBSD as a desktop for 2 years but that was a big pain in the ass.

Foresight linux is a good distro to use, but its still a fairly small distro, so you wont have as much help from user communities readily available. Its like a bleeding edge Redhat system, with RPM ripped out and the new conary package management system in its place. Conary is amazing. They include a lot of the newer gnome apps and tools that arent a part of the official release yet.

I used Ubuntu for a while, it's pretty good and has some great hardware recognition.
|
I've been a fan of redhat/fedora for a loooong time and once you get used to the filesystem layout and development packages its just easier to stick with what you know. The last four major products I've developed have been released on redhat/fedora.

I've been using Debian for years but switched to Ubuntu a while ago. Works like a charm for me.
|
I just installed Ubuntu.........works great!!
|
I've run both Ubuntu and Fedora. Personally I like Fedora a little more just because it feels like linux. Ubuntu feels like linux forcing a Windows feel.
Oh also I hate sudoing all the time to do something. |
