WarChild, nice try I guess (pics)

I decided to take your advice and get a Kong for my dog. Headed to Pet City, and while they did not have the "Kong" brand, they said the one they sold was "just as good."

I got the black as it was most durable, came home, stuffed some treats into it and gave it to Buddy.

He loved it . . . I could hear him gnawing away at it, non-stop. When I went back into the hall I noticed all these black pieces of hard rubber. Sure enough, he had chewed the bottom off so he could get to the treats.

This took him about 20 minutes.

On the upside, it now bounces more crazily, so it will probably last another hour or two before I have to toss it.

Backwards hick.

It's too small for him by the looks of it. Should be at least twice the size of that. I have no experience with non-brand name Kongs. I don't know if the rubber is the same quality. If it is, I'm pretty surprised becuase the only dog's I've ever seen destroy an actual Kong were pittbulls. Ahh well, live and learn I guess.

I've learned this from Caesar Milan but I just found it on the Kong site and always find it interesting:

Today, most domestic dogs don’t have to work for food. In nature, however, dogs are predatory meat-eaters. Hunting for food is physically and intellectually challenging. The hunt is their “work.” Success on the job results in a well-earned “paycheck” – their meal. Eating meat off the bone satisfies their hunger, exercises their jaw muscles and keeps their teeth and gums clean. Depriving dogs of their natural drives can result in serious behavioral issues including: excessive barking, destructive chewing, soiling, digging and separation anxiety.

That's it, he will now have to find his own food. I have been making it too easy for him. He used to have to kill rabbits, squirrels and birds.

I will have to find a store that carries that brand . . . but I have a feeling if anyone can do it, Buddy can.
