trip to Isreal...
I'd like to go there soon, so I have a couple of question.
When to go (when the weather is not too hot) where to go, what to see, where NOT to go :) ? I'll be staying in Tel Aviv at my master's gym, so accommodation is not a problem. thanks for the help (if I get any :) ) and of course it's IsrAEl..lol |
I have onl ybeen to Jordan but that's the other side of river Jordan :)
Have a nice trip ;) |

WHERE NOT TO BE: the city Sderot is a good example for that (a few missiles every few hours), those are fired by Hamas and Islamic Jihad (arabs): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sderot#City_under_attack in the north you have Hezbollah (arabs), they kidnap soldiers and fire rockets every now and then: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hezboll...ach ieve_aims WHERE TO BE: Tel-Aviv on the other hand is relatively safe as the missiles can't reach there at the moment, and there were no terror attacks in months - only attempts. Tel-Aviv is GREAT place to be for clubbing, you have a lot of pick up bars in Alanbi street and the night life is great, plus it is near the beach and you have Hilton and Sherton there to stay in. of course in Tel-Aviv you might have a few suicide bombers blowing them selves up at busses or at pick up bars so there is security staff at every door but don't let that bring you down. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g...Vacations.html if you are up for an exotic sunny vacation, I would recommend Eilat: http://www.eilat.com/ Eilat is far at the south and there were no terror attacks for months so that is a good option too. |
are You a jew?

oh and one more thing about "WHEN":
it gets REALY moist in Tel-Aviv around summer so don't go at July or Augost, come now or at fall. Eilat is a killer at summer, it gets too sunny, but it is a waste of time in winter time, you should come at spring. in both cases the best time is now. |
don't end up in a grave.......

thanks Zester!
I talked to a friend of mine and he told me that he and his friends own a pub in Tel Aviv, called Penny Lane. So I think drinking won't be a problem :) I thought about going there after summer, because of the weather yes... Eilat look real good, I will go there!! Thanks again! and no, I'm not a jew :) |

Early in the year is good, because you can choose between ski-ing in the Golan and snorkeling in Eilat during the same vacation. The time to avoid is summer (especially in Tel Aviv because the humidity is high).
You can go for the beaches and clubs, but then why go to a country at the far end of the Mediterranean for that? The old city in Jerusalem is unique (have lunch at "Philadelphia") and the scenery around the Dead Sea is very special. Try to get to Haifa, Jaffa, Tiberias... there's lots to see. In Tel Aviv itself, some of the cafes and bakeries in and on the edge of the Carmel market are good for trying mid-eastern food. Jaffa harbor is great - if you like sea food - for dinner. The glossier places, especially along Dizengof, are the safe choices food-wise, most of them pretty much like (semi) fast food anywhere. It's good you will know someone there, because whatever you have in mind, places in Tel Aviv tend to be dotted around and you could miss them completely without someone to point you to them. |
make sure that if you hear the words " ALLAH O AKBar" Lay the fuck down !!!

Israel
It would be really bad luck, you meet some suicidebomber or rocket from gaza strip or lebanon
I spent there a few years, even during intifada al-aksa. What is real danger are israeli drivers. There is much higher nomeber of dead in the streets becouse of their car driving then the conflict. Tel-Aviv is good place for swimming, drinking and even more fun. Eilat as well and you can dive there. Corralls are very impresive there. If you like history and mixed culture - go to Jerusalem. I was there in this spring and the old city was full of tourist, so it is not pleasant as during intifada. You can go with no worry to Betlehem or othe palestinian places. Ask some locals about the situation before, but nothing happens there now. Sderot is a few km from gaza - it is not interesting to go there anyway. |
make sure you check out the gaza strip
