20 months for murder

Get me this guys lawyer if I ever need one.

-- A New Jersey judge approved a plea deal Friday that will set free a man who admitted murdering his 2-year-old son 17 years ago.

Curtis Williams confessed to beating son Curtis McCoy to death, after claiming for 16 years to have lost the child while shopping in Newark.

Williams told prosecutors where he buried the body in exchange for a plea deal that would set him free with time served -- only 20 months in prison.

Classic example of every case being different....

Basically.. there is no evidence other than the defendant's admission. But sure... strange circumstances....

what kind of law is that??

StuBradley 05-12-2007 12:43 AM

Well if the guy doesn't confess and tell authorities where the body is the prosecutor has very little chance at a conviction and he/she knows that. Most if not all physical evidence and witnesses are going to be long gone by now. At least this way there is some closure for the rest of the family. If they take him to trial and lose (most likely outcome) there will still be lingering doubt and he will walk anyhow.

yeah, evidence of little evidence

StickyGreen 05-12-2007 01:05 AM

Well O.J. got 0 months for murder... so it just goes to show you how our legal system really works...

Actually he spent 16 months in jail while on trial.

Yeah the thing is he told them where the body was and they looked and never found it. In most places when you reneg on your part of a plea deal it usually gets thrown out.
