Electric Car vs. Ferrari and Porshce - Unreal Vid

Ferrari and Porshce get stomped Video

I almost didn't believe it, but then I remember back to research I did 10 years ago and how much direct torque an electric motor can produce versus a transmission. :thumbsup :thumbsup

Very cool footage. I am impressed.:pimp

I saw a hybrid electric car in a show awhile back. It's super quiet, almost no noise and has crazy acceleration - it's a sports car. I forget the name of it but seriously sweet!

Gumballs 05-18-2007 08:26 PM

Tesla Motors.

Gumballs 05-18-2007 08:27 PM

Tesla Motors Link

This car is unreal too. All electric.

Jarmusch 05-18-2007 08:46 PM

Very impressive, but for me half the fun and excitement of a sports car is the engine sound!

I know it sure would be strange not to have the noise and vibration of the combustion engine.

It's almost like smokeless cigarettes. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Yes it's an ariel atom modified with an electric engine. Did you watch the video with the sound turned off or something?

X37375787 05-18-2007 08:57 PM

Nevermind, it is... just on the Atom frame.

You know you can get an Atom kit here int he US and fit your own Honda Vtech motor...it'd still probably be faster than a Ferrari 360.

georgeyw 05-18-2007 09:28 PM

what a load of horseshit

Electric cars are quick (100% torque all the time) however those races = bs as it sounded like the driver(s) purposely got a heap of wheelspin off the line to let the electrocrappo win by a mile.

Trax 05-18-2007 09:30 PM

id take the porsche any day

Red Ezra 05-18-2007 11:03 PM

interesting - thanks

ssp 05-19-2007 01:18 AM

Electric cars can be quick without a doubt, although this is not a real performance comparison test. The Atom is more like a kart, small, low to the ground and very light weight. Where the other two cars proper cars; higher off the ground, heavier, creating more wind resistance.

The real test will be between two cars rather than a kart and a car.

abyss_al 05-19-2007 02:59 AM

that's not an electric car in that video :warning

that's an Ariel Atom

amazing car... one of the fastest cars ever!!

here's the best video of it

:winkwink: :thumbsup :thumbsup

these is what I was thinking after I watched the vid. Who the hell was driving the gas cars? LOTS of wheelspin.

PointerAdv_Lindsay 05-19-2007 08:18 AM

I agree with ssp. The cars were not the same. Def a kart vs. a car.

I had a friend in high school that had an old Road Runner. He stuck a Hemi in it and it was so heavy, he couldn't drag race it properly (his family owned a Dodge dealership - LUCKY!). It was getting really low times because of all the weight (back when cars were made of metal). :P When you sat in the car while it was on, you had to yell a bit to hear one another. It even sounded heavy. LOL. :1orglaugh

While I prefer old cars and roadsters, it was impressive. That car def won top-end, taking off so quickly.

Arielatom Frame...electric engine, if you look at the video closely you will see the engine is electric and not a combustion V-8.

It did seem like they had very little traction for high performance cars but I do know that electric sports cars are very fast off the line. It's direct power .. I'm sure if those cars hooked up they would still be beat off the line but in the long haul take it.

I've been looking at that car for some time now. I've been thinking about a 3rd car just for fun and for $100k that maybe it.

Gumballs 05-19-2007 08:43 AM

Mike I am serious think about getting on too. I heard last years models were sold out really early though. I don't know about this year.

I know there is a long waiting list. someone posted about the car awhile back and put the $50k down . they said it was like a 6-8 month wait i think. I think it's worth the wait and it's not like it will be a daily driver. I'm going to see if i can put in an order at the end of the summer and get it for next. All hinging on finances and all .. I have a few big projects in the works on the house so it may have to wait another year.
