Thanks for wanting to participate in the Xbox? Live beta. Here's a quick update on our progress...


We selected our initial beta testers this week and will be adding many more over the weeks to come. If you have not yet been contacted, we will be contacting you on or before September 20th regarding your status to potentially be included in our beta test program.

We want to thank you for your willingness to participate in the program, but want to let you know that we have many more applicants than we have openings. However, remember that this is just the beta, and we're working feverishly to bring to you the actual Live service on November 15th, 2002. This is when we will have made the necessary tweaks to create the ultimate online gaming arena for you and your friends.

I heard they can detect modchips via xbox live now.....anybody else hear this?

It's not rumors, it's true. So if you someone has a mod chip, you better be careful. Microsoft has been testing all of them, enigmah-X, X-ecuter... My guess is that you won't be able to play online. That's all.

That kind of sucks. I mean I can go out and burn my xbox to a crisp if I want, but if I put in a mod chip it is illegal. Who's to say that I have any copied games?

LOL! I understand what you mean, but do you really think Microsoft is going to think that you would risk opening your x-box, solder a new chip just for the fun of it?! I don't think so.

I can't tell you what are the laws with modchips or modification to an existing console. But I am sure that Microsoft will be happy to block any existing modified consoles from playing Xbox Live! and/or trace them.

Well, that's what I've heard.. We will see. Maybe it's Microsoft propaganda too

will the xbox live support high speed internet access? if so, which method? can you post a url explaining

I think XBLive is high speed 'only'. Thats an ethernet port on the back, not a dialup.

I have been playing Halo online like a madman via www.gamespy.com There is also www.xbconnect.com but I haven't tried it.

Don't be so Naive boy. People don't spend money on a mod chip and not use it.

xbox live looks like real fun. i can't think of many ways that are more deserving of your should-be-working-time than xbox live...

in the future i'd love to have a gta, four player deathmatch via the playstation 2/3/4, whatever. hopefully they'll introduce something like that eventually.

You should use xboxconnect instead. It's more reliable. I've tried both and xboxconnect rocks.

Oh! BTW, XBox Live simply rocks! No lag problems, the communicator also rules. I was expecting lag problems, but I was pleasantly surprised.. It's almost flawless (for a beta product, it's very promising).
