Nicest person @ a show

Basically I went to my first industry party the other day, and met alot of people , i was expected to kinda get the new guy treatment, but it turned out that eveyrone was really really nice to me, and i can't thank everyone I met enough.

So heres my question, have you ever gone to a show and seen someone that you knew on the boards but had never spoke to in person and expected them to be a stuck up asshole, but turned out to be a really nice and helpful guy? Or basically who was the nicest person you've ever come across at a show?

Sly 05-21-2007 04:25 PM

LOL it happens all the time bud. My guess is 85% of the people you may think are assholes from what you may see on boards are actually perfectly fine nice people.

A simple text post doesn't convey correct meanings.

LadyMischief 05-21-2007 04:31 PM

It happens all the time.. people can be much different than the board personnas they display.

seeric 05-21-2007 04:32 PM

you are now a bro. you went to the bro party. have you met top notch and stand up guy yet?

Well for me I was more suprised of how many people knew me and I was not expecting to be know at all.

I know i have been around on the boards a while. and had a few websites here and there, but I was not expecting to have people come up to me and ask if Iwas Minnie that was the big shock for me.

Does anyone know how to fix a keyboard my damn space feel out and it's not the same anymore.

Sleazy is the type of guy to fuck a man in the ass and not even have the common courtesy to give him a reach around.

And see I find a problem with that - WHY be ANY different ?

Ryan, I like you mate, but in person you are a great guy and on the boards you are "different" .. seems that miles and a keyboard between you and the debate gives you false cajones at times - I have NEVER seen you respond to any argument in person with the same "vigor" as you seem to do on the boards.

Why not do the same in person? I can never fathom that, with anyone. Well, I can actually, the no-name board hero who will NEVER go to a show and see others in person - let them dream their impossible dreams of grandeur IMHO... anyhoo, I digress ....

I will also make it clear here that creating an "image" on boards is one thing, and an over the top personality on boards for image, but walking the talk in person when it comes to having a say on REAL issues and shaving such STRONG opinions, I would consider the mark of a man - if you got something to say, say it, on the boards or in person, say it (for reference, if you did that and someone took umbrance with your opinion, I'd have your back, so long as you were voicing just that and not biting off more than you could chew).

I will also say you are not by any stretch of the imagination what I would consider the "worst" when it comes to this type of thing.

That is just one man's observation, but one I know you will recognize have you have done just with your reply above.

This is not casting aspersions on you by any means, fuck, I always enjoy the altogether too brief times we have got to spend together.

But one of the reasons I am LOVING not doing shows for the time being is the BS.

At the end of the day all I can do is thank fuck that I don't spend any energy anywhere or anytime being anything other than the same person.

One of my good friends always tells people what we meet, "Be careful talking to the bald bastard, hearing the truth can be a bitch".

The reason I avoid politics at shows is simple really. A good portion of my time on gfy is time wasting and mainly for my own entertainment. There is also a good prtion of time devoted to networking too, but the ratio of that time is probably 60/40. At shows the ratios are a bit different. Networking for me is 60 to 70% Partying (which includes possible skirt chasing, drinking and other levities) 28% Which would only allow for 2% politics. :winkwink: :winkwink: Politic arguing for me is a silly time waster. The chance of me changing the mind of someone is slim to nil. Now if someone initiates a conversation about something I may engage them for a time in debate HOWEVER I do not seek it because frankly I paid money to be at that show and I need to spend that time wisely. So its not so much that my feelings change, or Im trying to be non controversial at shows. Its more of a financial / fun thing.

Whats more fun at the shows? Skinny dipping with some girl in the hotel pool after being at a strip club all night and sucking down all the Grey Goose, or a futile conversation about Bush's policies on Iraq? :winkwink: :winkwink: Now that is at a show. Someone that lives near me or something where I didnt pay to be in an environment of networking with business peers, is very likely to get an ear full.

I am active in several groups here in Nashville that voice the same views as I do, and we do go out and argue face to face with people of different views. Hope you can see my reasoning. Its simply more of a time management issue than a "I back down at shows" issue. Very few people at shows to be honest have tried to initiate political conversations other than to bring it up to say they know who I am such as " Sticky YO you are that Republican dude ya I know you!" lol. :winkwink: :winkwink:

I am involved enough that I was asked by my State Representative in 2003 to come to a function and be a speaker at a small dinner. That is somewhere that my words my influence a difference. At a porn convention I am very unlikely to sway anyones political leanings. Time managment is all that it comes down to really. :)

Dwreck is one of the nicest guys you will run into at a show... The guy is AMAZINGLY happy and friendly everytime I have ever run into him at a show...

There have been very few that I have met at shows who came across like a total ass... There are some that I do not think would say the same about me tho. I am who I am tho.. If I like you then I can be one of the best people around, if I do not then I also seldom hide it and would just perfer to avoid and not deal with you..

12clicks 05-22-2007 06:51 AM

I'm exactly the same in person as on the boards. oddly, everyone seems to like it in person.
haha

WebairGerard 05-22-2007 07:08 AM

most people are pretty cool when you meet them. funny thing is, it's usually the one's that you think might be stuck up, etc, that end up being really cool in person. try not to judge by board posting alone. :)

unfortunately I dont beleive I have met her yet. And I totally agree with you on the name thing, I'm kinda in the same boat, as I remember faces and things they say, but I have trouble attaching a name to the face unless I talked for them for a while.

As for Xbiz, Maybe if I put up some huge sales number in my first few months J will send me down ;);) (you readin this J haha) lol We'll just have to see, how everything goes, you'll see me around at some shows soon though for sure.
