Why don't mainstream webmasters give a shit about Adult?
 

Have you ever noticed that most mainstream webmasters treat adult like it's the plague?

They go on their merry way praying to the google adsense god for their checks while adult has always had about 57 different ways to get paid.

They finally made the pay per signup (CPA) transition a couple of years ago as a main money generator. Now Google is finally about to start offering CPA payouts (Wait til the Russians get a hold of them and teach them some lessons! Haha)

It seems like they have always been behind the curve in promotion methods and payouts until recently. So, why all the hate?

Isn't it because mainstream guys think they can make way more in mainstream than adult.

Which probably only means they're not good enough to break through in adult with something unique ...

if this thread title was like feb 4 1999, then it would be agreeable. however, adult is no longer even close to the majority of commerce online and the ad revenues and processing for mainstream are waaaaaaay more favorable...

it would be more negative for an adult webmaster to ignore mainstream than vice-versa imho

I think it's because like in adult you have the uninformed and the knowledgable.

I'm assuming they've got this stigma that adult is "easy but sleazy" so they all think they're taking the high road by being morally righteous and doing things "harder".

As a result you've got a bunch of sheep who think we're taking the easy way to profit online.

Just look at GFY and you'll see why mainstream webmasters avoid adult like it was the plague.

Hmm, could it be the fact that 10 ppc hits makes mainstream guys $10 where it takes sometimes 200 ppc hits to make $30 in porn?

Mainstream is far more lucrative than adult if you are working a good niche. The idea that all mainstream webmasters are reliant on Google Adsense checks in ludicrous. The bigger my mainstream project gets the less I rely on one income source.

With mainstream I sometimes get US$3-5 clicks... in adult you'd be lucky to even get 3-5c per click.

Mainstream, in short, is an absolute goldmine.

why would I want to go back to an industry that's essentially hated by the government and cut-throat with competition when I can make a lot more a lot easier in mainstream?

they are much bigger than us.When I was with a mainstream dotcom 5 yrs ago , cpa had been pushed aside for cpm now I guess its back.

All good points. I am all mainstream except one last holding, and a group of domains, but I learn, and laugh about the industry as a whole more here than any other forum.
Mainstream is a goldmine because surfers are like cattle.

It takes some serious "Moxy" and ingenuity to be an adult webmaster, and no doubt, most "Mainstream" webmasters would starve, however, I think that semi-successful Adult webmasters could easily cross over.
Your avenues are limited in adult, yet you adjust and survive...some of you quite well.
Imagine taking what you know from this field and having absolutely, no marketing limitations at all.
If you know the web..... you know the web.
No matter if it's Adult or mainstream, or French or English.
You learn your market.

I used to say this growing up in Detroit, (Not that I am comparing the two)
My friends that were running dope houses successfully, could easily have run 6 or 7 Mc Donalds too. Maybe some culture and presentation adjustments, but running a successful business all the same, and no one would be trying to kill you.

It's got nothing to do with morals IMO. Because if it was easy money, most people are like "Morals be damned"
That point I was trying to make is, it's not easy. It's not like the good 'ole days, when a naked picture, and some grainy 1981 video on dial up, on the screen was all you needed, and you could bill the fuck out of someones credit card multiple times for $50 a whoop.
You have to get inside people head now, you have to know what converts with what...you need a little psychology, AND, you have to do SEO with one had tied behind your back.
Some of you guys don't give yourself enough credit.
People don't know how to do that shit! If you take a mainstream guy, and an Adult guy, and give them each 1 year. My money is on the Adult guy every single time.
If you can figure out what sells (between all the different niche's, and media formats) and how to sell it, to people who "technically" are not looking for it, I am pretty sure you can put iPods together with iPod batteries, and you have the wealth of the web to market and advertise.

Doing Adult, IMO, is like driving at 100 MPH's, (KPH's for you metric freaks) on 3 wheels at all times, around cones. Mainstream is driving 40 MPH's, on four wheels, over speed bumps. Still not easy, but easier.And a lot more options.
