How many categories on a blog?

How many categories do you tend to have on a blog you run? Any particular reason for your choice?

No set number and I'm constantly adding them. I just finished one that has 12 entries and 26 categories.

I keep my categories to a minimum but tag the hell out of everything.

Depends on the blog. Some of mine have 7-10 categories and others have 20. I try not to overly categorize, but if something deserves a new category, I'll add it.

Since I do so many fetishes and micro niches I am always breaking things down as much as I can but I am not sure how much of a SE benefit it actually adds.
